Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Pax domini bretheren, sympathiesers and others... My idea of fasting for a day and night is bread and water (i have tea but hope to upgrade to water eventually, because this is how Abel fasted when he one his contest against Kaine. Also, holy scripture states 'do not deny what is good.' and we need food to function so is good, some need more, some less, padre pio functioned fully on very little. So yes we all know this what else has this dingbat got to say ? I wan't to talk about the fast before holy eucharist as being absolutely nothing for an hour before eucharist which is cool too, but is it bad and contrary to the will of our Lord to do such a fast on absolutely nothing for a day or more, i personaly think it is bad because we need food daily unless theres some kind of famine. People have told well if somone can do it than it's ok which i understand but just because somone can do something doesn't nescisarily make it Good in the context of there temporal and eternal welfare. What sayeth ye all.? My whole idea on fasting maybe be totally wrong, and i do know yes some fast by doing some kind of charity they wouldn't normally do or switching off the t.v. for a day,no music for a week etc etc. Onward christian souls. Jesus iz LORD.
Groo the Wanderer
Jesus fasted. So did the Apostles and the early Church. "these kind can only be driven out by prayer and fasting".... fasting is a form of mortification and strengthens us. i myself should do it much more often. Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
The fasting i'm not sure whether or not it benefits our temporal or perpetual/eteranl salvation is the fasting by eating and drinking nothing except in the case of one hour before the holy eucharist. Again i take the way i fast is from kaine and abel, just bread and water (well i wan't to get to water but for now i still drink tea) and no meat except at dinner after the bread and water fast i have fish and vegetables. Abel fasted on grains and kaine fasted on meat. Mortification in this sense doesn't sound good to me doing it delibrately except in the case of charitable works, god doesn't wan't us rejectng what is good holy scripture states this, but than i guess you have to figure out what is good and what isn't. I know Jesus fasted off food for 40 days and 40 nights but i'm not Jesus and nore are you, i assume he had water but maybe not. I just think there is more to what Jesus did in the desert and isn't an example of how we should fast, it is an example of rejecting satan. But even than now that i think about it where in that scripture did it say Jesus ate nothing ? I know satan tempted him to turn the rocks to bread , but again sometimes Jesus is Jesus and where not, nore are we meant to be. So this is a grea topic now any how, what are your thoughts on jesus going into the desert after he was baptised?
