The situation started around 3:40pm near the Destiny Church at the intersection of U.S. Highway 231 and Private Road 1539 in the small town of Midland City in Dale County. The Dale County Sheriff's Department and a multitude of other law enforcement, including surrounding police departments, Alabama State Troopers, a SWAT team, and FBI agents converged on the community in the aftermath of the shooting and kidnapping. As of 11:00pm, authorities were communicating with the suspect via a PVC pipe connected to the bunker. The child is said to be "okay", but authorities remain cautious, calling it a "delicate" situation.

BG45
Prayers for that poor kid (and also the captor, something isn't right about anyone who would do this).
missionseeker
Unfortunately the bastard still has the kid held in an underground bunker. Prayers are still needed
PhuturePriest
Are they unable to go in themselves, or do they feel as if the situation has not gotten bad enough to go to drastic measures such as going in there? This situation is troubling, but I'm also confused by how they are handling the situation. I'm sure they have good reasons for doing what they are doing. I would at least like to think they know more about this than I do.
missionseeker
I don't know. they are not really giving updates. Which is fine. They have good reasons to believe the kid is alive and ok. They called in hostage experts so hopefully it will end well and end soon
CatherineM
I heard the bunker is well stocked. They probably hope to resolve it without putting the child in more danger.

Gabriela
Are they unable to go in themselves, or do they feel as if the situation has not gotten bad enough to go to drastic measures such as going in there? This situation is troubling, but I'm also confused by how they are handling the situation. I'm sure they have good reasons for doing what they are doing. I would at least like to think they know more about this than I do. Presumably they're in contact with the captor. If he's saying he'll kill the kid if they come in, they probably aren't going to take any chances. They'll try to wear him down psychologically.
