zabbazooey
Some more suggestions for awesome reading: Anything written by Immaculee Ilibagiza lol "No Turning Back" by Fr. Donald Calloway The Imitation of Christ Once you decide to get a Bible, I HIGHLY recommend the Lectio Divina version I recently purchased. It looks like this: Why do you recommend this one? I had the NAB with the pretty fields on the cover, the free one that came with RCIA initiation...I hear the NAB is not the greatest translation. Being raised in a secular family, it's hard for me to understand how people can find the bible edifying and inspirational. Besides the gospels. zabbazooey
And thank you for the kind replies and support. I love Phatmass, this community has really helped me a LOT. You all have really been key during this whole cycle, phase, growth, whatever you wanna call it, that I have been going through. I only ask for your prayers, that my faith will strengthen and soon I'll be a Eucharist-receivin', birth control rejectin', Church defendin', confession goin', pro-life supportin', devout Catholic. Love you guys! :like3: AND my very first "crazy dope, yo" post! AMESOME!!! Edited January 30, 2013 by zabbazooey
MissyP89
I came to PM two weeks before I came back to the Church. Things got real rocky immediately after that and I doubt I'd still be Catholic without the phamily here. Stick around, zz. This is a beautiful time. Because its the lectio divina version it has little sections on the side of each page with reflections and questions for thought. Plus each book of the bible has a picture at the beginning which helps to break the monotony of long columns lol.
Basilisa Marie
Why do you recommend this one? I had the NAB with the pretty fields on the cover, the free one that came with RCIA initiation...I hear the NAB is not the greatest translation. Being raised in a secular family, it's hard for me to understand how people can find the bible edifying and inspirational. Besides the gospels. As far as the NAB not being a great translation... it depends on what your purpose is. I personally really like using the NAB for my own prayer, because that's the translation we use at Mass in the US. But the NRSV-CE (New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition) is pretty popular, too. I used that one when I did academic biblical study for school. I actually find the rest of the New Testament more edifying than the gospels (I know, I'm a bad Catholic). When I study who wrote the letters and why and who they were written to, it helps me understand them better. Like, the Corinthians lived in a community that was on an "isthmus" so they had two seaports and were a huge center of trade and cultural exchange, which is one reason why Paul talks about them standing firm in faith and guarding against all sorts of kinds of immorality. Philippians is my favorite, because much of it talks about being excellent and meditating on good and virtuous things. Paul calls the Galatians stupid in chapter 6. :) He has a lot of personality. I think they're great because they show different ways to put the gospel messages into practice, what it means to live a Christian life in different situations. Plus, Acts is like the Gospel of Luke part 2, and is really the only one that goes into detail about what happens right after Jesus ascended into Heaven. Anywho, yeah. Bibles are cool. :)
OnlySunshine
I came to PM two weeks before I came back to the Church. I wouldn't doubt that the enemy was pursuing you because you were interested in coming back. I remember when I was at the Young Adult retreat in December 2007 right before I made my reversion (actually the night before) and I had this intense feeling like darkness was pursuing me. The enemy had me in his clutches so long that I believe he was angry I was trying to come back to God and His Church. I was so thankful that Sr. Mary Gabriel of the Sisters of Life was there to walk with me and gave me a blessing in that most trying hour. If I had any words of advice, zabbazooey, it would be to not be frightened but be on guard. Vigilance is the most important thing when you are making the decision to come back to the faith. Use that Rosary often and ask Mary for her protection. After all, the devil hates her the most since she is going to crush his head at the end of time! :) Edited January 30, 2013 by MaterMisericordiae
