I'm still struggling to figure out something, I'm  about stumped, prayed and everything! I may do the rosary for someone  a day thing just so there is something.

LinaSt.Cecilia2772 and Lil Red ... if you do choose to pray each day for a different person PLEASE INCLUDE ME ON IT.  There's another (unspoken) person (you-know-who-you-are lol) who is doing the same and I'm begging said person to put me on their list.

If you do put me on the list -- let me know the day, and I promise to pray for you on that day.

Won't go into details (take a look at my last few prayer requests) but suffice to say that my world is turning upside down.  Again.  And I'm doing a good job at flipping out due to it (although I am keeping it inside for now, somewhat).

I've got you on my list for March 22. :)

Wow, I've picked up a lot from this thread!

-Small amount of fasting (If I fast too much it turns into a diet, which makes it more self-centered rather than sacrificial)

-Humility- I really struggle with that.

-Being more helpful, especially to my sisters who need me to watch their kids.

-Read Scriptures daily.

-Try to give of myself more.

-Pray for a different person every day.

-Say a DMC every day at 3:00.

-Give up watching Youtube.

-In general, just try to grow in holiness and pray for virtue, especially humility and peacefulness.

Thanks for giving me some ideas, Pham!

At this point what I am leaning towards is getting up at a set time each day (no more sleeping in when I have afternoon classes), and using some of that time to do spiritual reading.

I have only come up with two things, neither of which is directly spiritual. The first is getting on board with the FlyLady idea, because there's still so much to do around here and it would be a blessing, not only for me, but the whole family.

The second is figuring out some sort of workout plan and sticking to it, because I have been slacking on that for more than a year now. I'm thinking something like 15 mins a day the first week, 20 mins the second, and so on, excluding Sundays. Has anyone tried P90X or anything similar? Any suggestions, tips, advice, warnings, etc? I used to use my bowflex at least 20 mins a day but we quit heating the mud room where it's located for the winter so I'm all set with working out in below freezing temps. Althouuuughhh.... that could be a sort of penance?

hmm... No. Still no.

I have already added a few spiritual practices in that I intend to keep up with and hopefully improve.

Glad I found this thread, because I had no idea what I was going to do. Thankfully, I now have three things I want to do:

1. The FlyLady idea sounds interesting and is something I sorely need, so I'll join in on that.

2. I'll be praying a different novena every nine days (5 novenas from Ash Wednesday to Good Friday).

3. I... think I'll keep this one to myself. I have something in mind but I have a feeling it may change over the Lenten season.

Yep I've decided what I'm doing.

1) No red meat or white flour products.

2) Keeping my room completely clean

3) Prayer list that I said earlier

And cmariadiaz, you are definitely going on my prayer list. Anyone else need prayers??

I'm a huuuuuuuge fan of eating stuff.  It doesn't matter if it's healthy food or junk food, I enjoy the action of eating food and it's something I constantly crave to do.  I also enjoy drinking, whether it's water, soda, beer, rum, milkshakes, etc. but I'll go a few weeks only drinking water and I'm honestly not bothered by it.  So to attack the specific craving of eating, I'm going on a liquid fast for lent.  I will be consuming a wide variety of drinks (protein shakes, fruit smoothies, V8, ensure, beer, etc.) for my nutrients and even taking a multivitamin, but I will not be eating.

I will also be committing to participate in a weekly lectio divina and attending a minimum of 1 weekday mass each week (I have to get up at 6:30 instead of my usual 9:30).

I don't know if I'll actually be able to do this, but I want to do my best to go out of my way to help someone (family, friend, or stranger) every single day during lent.

After some talking to, and much to MissyP's relief, I've decided not to go through with the liquid fast.  I tried for awhile to come up with something else just as crazy and I was getting really frustrated.  I figured out that I was making this food issue into a bigger deal than it needed to be, so I should not be doing anything major to my diet for Lent.  Maybe another year, but not this one.  Instead, I'm going to focus more on my prayer life & time with God, reaching out to other people, and taking more time for the simple things to take better care of myself.

  • Fasting on Fridays,
  • litany of humility every day,
  • attend minimum 1 daily Mass per week,
  • read a minimum of 1 chapter a week from a non-school/work book,
  • give up pokemon,
  • walk my landlord's dog,
  • and go out of my way in kindness to someone every day.

And it's nothing concrete, but I'm going to try to be more on the outlook for opportunities for things like adoration, stations of the cross, etc.  Also, I was excited for the lectio divina, but unfortunately that ended up falling through too lol.

Pfft. Petty mortals, having trouble with humility...

I think I'm going to work on my humility as well, amazing as it may be. :saint2:
