Anastasia13
When does taking care of ones own life become selfish? Obviously a certain amount needs to be ok. How much are we allowed to take strive for things in our own lives before it becomes selfish and unChristian?

Anastasia13
I will answer with a question. What does it mean to be poor in spirit? I have googled this today in response to your question. I have found a couple of things: Not attached to worldly things. Humble. Willing to roll in dust while others have luxury. Surely this does not mean that we should happily settle for whatever comes our way and never pursue anything that may in some small way bring us pleasure or satisfaction? And surely being willing to roll in the dust doesn't mean that we should happily not take care of things for any reason other than the fact that they are gifts? Nihil Obstat
The key is the humility and being unattached to material possessions. The rest flows from that. There is nothing wrong with having more, with being wealthy, but there is something wrong if being wealthy is so important to you that it causes you to lose humility or faith or charity. missionseeker
Love your neighbor AS yourself, not more than yourself. In order to be able to love God well, or our neighbor well, we need to be able to love ourselves. Also, God puts desires in our hearts. Fulfilling those desires may just be part of his plan for us.
