SacredTruth, i'm just telling you what i believe to be true. i'm not attacking you. by no means should you drop out of RCIA. your motivation for turning to Catholocism should be seeking the truth.

Catholics are not called to discriminate against homosexuals, that's clear in the Catechism. but in all love and charity, you should at the least let a friend who is a homosexual know what the Church teaches on that and why she teaches it. Let them know first and foremost, before any of that, that you'll always be their friend even if you have disagreements. there's nothing wrong with being friends with a homosexual,,, you can be my friend! :)
but seriously, even with a practicing homosexual, so long as you do not condone those actions which are against the nature of human beings and the nature of God's created purpose.

SacredTruth...I hope that you did not take me in a negative light...I'm only trying to rep the Church with charity...

Al, I hope you understand my agreement with you.

Al, it takes guts to expose your darkness to His light, and by doing so, you will become a better person. My prayers and thoughts are with you always.

Raphael, yep we're on the same side.

SacredTruth, no one here even mentioned hell. No one.
why then were you thinking it? because that's the Christian stereotype, the evil Christian-by-name-only-ism that teaches god hates gay ppl ( i didn't capitalize God there because THAT god [who hates gay ppl] is not the True God.

The Catechism is very beautiful on this.
Chastity and homosexuality

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,140 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."141 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
Please read that. That is my creed on homosexuality. I can gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

i'm not telling you not to have gay friends. see the red there? i fight against anyone who would take the name of the Lord and Savior then proceed to make fun of homosexuals and discriminate against them.

Al, I think it's awesome that you're taking the high road here. We all have our own crosses to bear, some heavier than others, and often times it is easier to put the cross down and walk away. I will keep you in my prayers. God will be with you always, but the devil will try ever harder to tempt you.

I remember when I was in RCIA being really enthusiastic about converting. Then I thought that I shouldn't convert because I wasn't worthy enough. Then someone on the RCIA team told me something profound. He said the reason you convert isn't because you're worthy enough, but it's because you're not worthy. Catholicism is a trip, not a destination. There are those who want to help you on your way, but there are also those that want to lure you off the path or quit your journey. We just have to remember that there are great rewards along the path and the greatest reward at the destination.

Anyways, I'll quit rambling and get back to work...

Aloy(i like it that i'm the only one who calls u that ;) ),

i love ya man, straight up. your posts have always been so edifying for me. you have such valuable insight about the church. i have always profited much from your engagment here. i was definitley surprised to find out that Aloysius and ludercovera were one in the same, but that doesn't change the high esteem in which you are held.

that said, when i first read this thread, an image immediately came to me. it is truly awesome and i wish to share it w/ u.

when i think of ur SSA as a "cross" that you have to bear, i am automatically reminded of a scene from The Passion of the Christ, when our Lord is struggling to drag His Cross on the path to Galgotha. mobs of both protesters and sympathizers crowd the streets from both sides. amidst the caucophany, we catch a stare-down between Mary on the left side of the street and the devil on the right. the devil is watching, anticipating the fruits of her evil (symbolized by the baby she carries) which he assumes will be realized by the failure and death of Jesus.

BUT--oh God, here's where i get hyped up!--Mary is on the other side of the street, staring at the devil as if to say, "WHAT NOW U PUNK-ASS DEVIL! you think you have triumphed here?!?! well then, let my mere presence remind you that you have already lost!!! look at me you pathetic devil, look at the first-fruits of my Son's saving work, which at this point in time has not even be achieved yet!! look at me and know that you will never win!! look at the sinless creature that stands before you, the product of Jesus Christ's TRIUMPH on the cross. let my very presence be a reminder that YOURS is the losing battle, not mine, nor my Son's, nor our sons, daughters, brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.

how does this awesome scene pertain to you? well, ur SSA is your cross, one that will provide tremendous struggle and contest as you carry it through your street of life. there are protesters who say you have already lost, who say that you are damned for the mere presence of ur SSA, who say that heaven is not yours. but, there are also sympathizers, those who cry w/ you, who wish to wipe away your blood sweat and tears (like the women Jesus stopped to console) and who are even there to carry your cross w/ you, who relieve the burden, who have the burden likewise placed upon themselves (like Simon from the crowd).

of preeminence you have the devil and you have mary. you have the devil on one side, tempting you to sin, making himself the stumbling block that will cause you to fall. fall you will--just as our perfect Jesus did--but get up you must. why? b/c if you can only find a way to carry your cross to the end, the very thing that causes you pain will be the instrument of your salvation. it was Christ's crucifixion upon the very cross he carried that brought salvation to all mankind. and so it will be w/ u and your salvation.

on the other side, you have Mary, the first-fruit of her Son's salvific work. you have a mother who loves you to no end, who is encouraging you--imploring you even--to fight the good fight. she RUNS to you whenever you fall, heartbroken b/c of the pain you must feel, wishing only to console you in some small way, just as she does for her Son. she will always be there for you and with you during this journey. let her presence w/ you be a constant reminder that SATAN'S IS THE LOSING BATTLE, NOT YOURS!! you will win, if only you contest until the bitter end.

the Lord's yolk is easy, and His burden is light b/c Christ Jesus has carried the heaviest burden in your stead and b/c you have a crowd of sympathizers w/ Mary as their leader. together, as ONE BODY OF CHRIST, we will overcome this burden of sin and death, and salvation will be ours.

FOREVER your brother in Christ Jesus,
Nicholas Joseph Hardesty, aka phatcatholic

Aloysius, I salute you! Be strong and pray hard. I will for you.

Hi Aloysius,

What a touching post! It must have taken a lot of courage to post what you did. The fact that you humbled yourself, admitted your SSA, and choose to live chastely is awesome! Nowadays, it's all too easy for people to just throw in the towel. It takes a true Christian (and a true man, in your case) to stay and fight the good fight. The fact that there are people like you out there who struggle with SSA but will not allow it to define and dominate them -- and who will not buy into the lies promulgated by our godless, oversexed culture -- is incredibly encouraging. Those suffering from SSA but choose to live chastely will be a model for our depraved culture. Your light shines brighter than the darkness. Remember that.

phatcatholic gave you excellent advice that will hopefully be of some help to you in your struggles. You know, if anything, I really look up to you for speaking out about this. If you were worried that others would think ill of you after you told us about your SSA, you were horribly wrong -- at least in my case. I appreciate you for the strong, courageous, and chaste man you are. And thank you very much for sharing what you did. :)

God bless,

Jennifer

Ash Wednesday

The only thing that stuns me about you, Alyosius, is how incredibly wise you are beyond your age.

Wow. I was impressed by you before, but now I'm floored. God has blessed you immensely with a strong faith. I was impressed by lundercovera too, so to find this out I guess is not that big of a surprize.

We still love ya just as much as before (if not more), and I know I still look forward to reading your insightful posts.
