Emilyann's Tea And Biscuits

He also gave us extra credit for bringing in everyday objects and visuals that used space and astronomical concepts in interesting ways.

He really liked a flyer I brought him in from the law office in which I was working that was advertising a conference on acquiring real estate and doing the legal work involved in that... that showed the entire Milky Way galaxy as a backdrop.

He stared at it, looked at me, eyes shining and said, "Wow... THAT is a LOT of real estate!" and put the flyer into his stuff.

I couldn't agree more!!!!!

:hehe:

How do people confuse astronomy and astrology? Then again I wonder how they manage to confuse psychologist and psychic :P

People have this funny look they give me when I say I studied psychology, as if I'm suddenly going to be able to see all their deepest darkest secrets.

I've also got my new saint/virtue/continent for next year. I posted about it on my blog already but that's pretty long. This year I got I got:

Saint: Maximillian Kolbe and Joan of Arc
Virtue: Generosity
Continent: North and Central America

Double saints...woo! I was super excited when they got picked because it's two saints I've always admired but have never really made the effort with. Although I hope having two martyrs isn't ominous... :hehe: And

Generosity is an interesting one. I'm not selfish I don't think but I'm definitely not as generous as I could be. It's a very active virtue as well, and that sort of thing is waaay outside my comfort zone so it will be a challenge to work on for sure.

My continent last year was super easy since I got South America. Getting North and Central America is a good change, since it's not a region I'm all that familiar with.

I'm really looking forward to the new liturgical year now. :)

So this morning I'm just sitting in my living room, waiting for my lunch to finish cooking, when I hear the doorbell ring. We haven't ordered anything recently so I'm wondering who it could be. Turns out it is a delivery, addressed to me. I'm totally confused, and I notice the box has flower scroll patterns on it. My boyfriend had asked me about flowers recently (it was our 1-year anniversary last week) but I was like "no, that can't be it". So I find the scissors and open the box, and....

It's flowers!

I've never gotten flowers before! He even remembered what kind of flowers I like. I've been feeling kind of rubbish lately, but it's just made me so so happy.

As far as majors, most people are confused when I tell them I'm studying linguistics. They think it must be learning a lot of languages or something. Nope, it's the study of language in general.

Linguistics is super cool. I have a friend studying linguistics, and it's always so fascinating to hear him talk about his classes. For instance, in school, when they are so adamant about speaking English "properly", they in fact are in the wrong, because English, like all languages, is not set in stone. Rather, it changes as time goes on. That's why we just say "you" rather than "thee", "thou", and "ye". There is in fact no such thing as "improper" English, because English is constantly changing, and whatever is the common vernacular is "proper", not what the rules 100 years ago state are proper.

Sorry i didn't realize there was already a tea thread and started another one up.  And flowers are very cool emilyann, and i know nothing on linguistics but sounds like a worthy pursuit.

I think to a certain degree, some of the rules kind of morph, but i think also some remain the same. I may be totally wrong.

Happy Thanksgiving, Ameri-folk!

Being British, today was just Thursday for me. I had tea but not biscuits. The biscuits always evade me at work. It's probably a good thing, someone decided to buy chocolate chip hobnobs and I could eat a whole packet of them.
