EmilyAnn
Yesterday my very anti-Catholic mother actually entered a Catholic church. We were in London and I spotted Westminster Cathedral - not knowing at the time what it was. I commented on how beautiful it is and my mother told me it was the cathedral. It's really unusual architecture for England, so I asked if I could go take a look. To my shock, my mother not only agreed but came with me. And then listened to me ramble on about It's absolutely beautiful. Unfinished on the inside, but it's stunning. But yes, my mother entered a Catholic church, something she once said she'd never do again! I'm praying this is a sign that she is warming up to Catholicism again. AnneLine
It took us nearly 50 years to finish our parish Church, EmilyAnn. Did that one sustain bomb damage during WWII, or is it just that they never got to finishing it? So many of the huge cathedrals and giant parishes just take decades betweeen the work and the expense.... does look beautiful! And praying for your mom... mine took over 40 years to come back. he he he. We'll pray...
EmilyAnn
I haven't posted in this thread in months but... I passed my final exams! :winner: So I am officially done with college. Scary...but four years of work finally being done is pretty good. EmilyAnn
My thoughts from working in retail: If you decide you don't want an item, put it back in the right place. It's not like it's a massive inconvenience to you. People have a tendency to count out piles of change hidden away in their purses/wallets, then dump the whole lot in my hand and look confused when I have to count it out again myself. No, I can't just take your word for it that this is the right number of coins. If you're giving small change, count it out as you hand it over. Be nice. Retail workers have a pretty rubbish job sometimes. But a nice customer can really brighten your day. I'm working in a charity shop (as a volunteer) at the moment and it's pretty fun. I've worked there in my holidays for a few years now and though it's tiring it's good to have something to do. Plus my boss loves me so she'll give me a good reference when I apply for jobs. And she buys me cakes - there's this amazing bakery next door and she feels less guilty having cake if I'm having one too. :hehe: I've got my final degree results and unfortunately I got a class lower than what I was hoping for. I'm absolutely devastated, but getting over it - although after 4 years to come out disappointed is a hard pill to swallow. But I'll be okay. I'm going on vacation a few days after my graduation for two weeks which will be good for me - lying in the sun doing nothing. Gotta love all-inclusive. Luigi
Are you sure that's not Albert Hall? Or an arcade of some sort?
EmilyAnn
Are you sure that's not Albert Hall? Or an arcade of some sort? Very sure. It's the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Most Precious Blood (commonly known as Westminster Cathedral).
EmilyAnn
So this is a bit late but last Thursday I graduated from university! :winner: I didn't trip over on stage in my heels and my boyfriend watched the ceremony online so all in all it was pretty great. I am officially a graduate, I have a degree! It feels really weird but even though I was kind of disappointed in my result, I'm pretty happy overall. Tomorrow I go on vacation, which is super exciting. Just when the hot weather here dies down I go somewhere sunny. Hehe. Sadly, after my two weeks of glorious nothingness, I have to start finding a job. Eeeek. Anyway, see y'all in two weeks!

EmilyAnn
So...I have been away for two weeks. Gosh, it seems like a long time. Holidays have that effect, especially the do-nothing-on-a-beach kind. It was me, my mom, my sister and some family friends. I felt sorry for my friend's father, it was just him and five women! And our hotel had free WiFi, much to my relief (since the last hotel we stayed in you had to pay to use a computer) so I could keep in touch with my boyfriend, even if it was just a daily email. It was a good holiday, but I am glad to be home. There's nothing quite like your own bed after you've been away! My sister's birthday is in two weeks and I'm making an ombre cake. My sister is an unbelievably good baker, and her cakes are a work of art (the artistic talent went to her and one of my brothers and skipped me entirely) so the pressure is ON. But if I actually pull it off it will be spectacular. I'm experimenting with cupcakes at the moment, her boyfriend is visiting this week so I've enlisted him to get her out of the house while I experiment so she doesn't get clued in. Our flight got in at like 1AM yesterday so I'm still tired...time for bed!
