Guest
A facebook friend posted an image just a little while ago that said this. At first glance I loved it and wanted to hit the like button. But then after some reflection I though well this quote just isn't true. At least the first part. The part about God watching over us all of our days is true. But the part about Him keeping us from harm couldn't possibly be true. I was reluctant to type a comment in the comment section but I did. I didn't want him to think I was attacking him or God. Because I'm not but one only has to look at the latest school shooting or the killings in the at the movies or all the other countless deaths that happen everyday. As great as it sounds were not promiced to be kept from harm. Do you guys have any thoughts on this ? I have no idea but it seems possible the quote he posted came from a psalm in the o.t. and even if it didn't it seems there are quotes similar to this. Again this is not an attack on God or His goodness. And I pray everyday for Him to keep me from harm. But again its not promiced. Right ? cappie
"For he hath given his angels charge over thee; to keep thee in all thy ways." Psalm 91:11 Douay-Rheims Bible "Behold I will send my angel, who shall go before thee, and keep thee in thy journey, and bring thee into the place that I have prepared." Exodus 23:20 same Bible On the second point we pray in the Lord's Prayer, deliver us from evil. This prayer deals with the power of sin in our daily life. From the human side it depends upon our attitude of faith in the death of Christ and the action of faith taking God at His word and depending on the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to over come temptation. There will never be a time in the Christian's life when he will not need to depend on the Holy Spirit. The just one shall live by faith—faith which depends on the power of the indwelling Spirit. This is what it means to abide in the Spirit or abide in Christ. Edited January 23, 2013 by cappie
Guest
Thanks for the reply Father....I'm sorta confused how it applied to what I asked...What I was saying is were not promiced to be kept from harm right ? Like those kids who were killed in the shooting...I'm sure some were baptised and mabey some not...But just because that happened to them it doesn't mean God wasn't keeping them from harm right ? It just means someone really evil did something that is beyond evil. So as a christian were not promiced to be kept from harm like this quote on facebook said right ? cappie
If you ask me point-blank, “Why did God allow the gunman to spray the kids with gunfire?â€, the only answer I can honestly give consists of four words – “I do not know.†I cannot stand in the shoes of God and give a complete answer to that question. I don’t have God’s mind. I don’t see with God’s eyes. First Corinthians 13:12 says, We see now through a glass in a dark manner; but then face to face. Now I know I part; but then I shall know even as I am known. So when you ask about specific individual events and want to know why this particular thing happened, we won’t get the full answer in this world. Someday we’ll see with clarity, but for now things are foggy. We can’t understand everything from our finite perspective.
cappie
Just before the Apostle Paul was martyred he told his spiritual son Timothy, “The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen (2nd Timothy 4:18).†The ultimate harm is that the enemy of our souls would turn our hearts away from Jesus Christ, but God keeps us from that harm. He will bring us safely into His heavenly kingdom.
Guest
Thanks Father. I wasn't meaning to ask about a specific event just useing that as an example. Again I just thought the quote wasn't accurate and something a protestant would say to feel warm and fuzzy inside. I like the example you gave about the ultimate harm. That is good and makes sense. And again this thread was not to question God. I ask God everyday to keep me safe from physical harm and I trust He will. But I also know bad things happen to good people everyday in the world we live in. And I for one don't believe its a result of God not protecting a person. Its just that sometimes things happen. At a earlier date I would question God and why he didn't protect people in those instances. Bot not now. I have without a shadow of a doubt God is complete good and all loveing. Anyhow thanks for the replies again. Godbless Father.
