Era Might
This guy is epic lol, a real-life George Costanza:
Investigators probed the developer's computer for malware and other clues, but instead turned up hundreds of pdf invoices from a Chinese consulting firm. From, there, investigators quickly pieced together what happened. "As it turns out, Bob had simply outsourced his own job to a Chinese consulting firm. Bob spent less that one fifth of his six-figure salary for a Chinese firm to do his job for him," Valentine said. He had FedExd his RSA token to the Chinese firm so that the company could log in and work using his credentials. Meanwhile "Bob" was typically in his office at the company from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. watching cat videos, reading stories on Reddit and spending time on eBay, Facebook and LinkedIn, the blog post said. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9235926/_Bob_outsources_tech_job_to_China_watches_cat_videos_at_work

arfink
I am one of these guys to whom such work is outsourced to. The company I work for is the kind of company those clowns hire. There are guys who have business cards that say "graphic designer" who are hiring me, through my boss, to do that for them. It's just a new way to say "I am rich, so I never do work." CatherineM
My first experience with Zach was like this. 11 year old neighbourhood kid who agreed to shovel the walk for $20. He paid $5 to another kid to do it for him.

eagle_eye222001
Simultaneously a genius and idiot. Genius for figuring out a way to make money and do nothing.....idiot for not having the connection go from China to a pc at his home via vpn, and then to the workplace as this would have not raised alarm bells near as readily. This would have hid his operation better and the company would only know of the connection to his home and have no idea of the China connection. Going straight from China to company place was really daring and stupid. Everyone knows employers watch everything their employees do.

If you are in business with critical infrastructure then any leakage of information to foreign countries is strictly controlled, and can carry felony penalties. That he was willing to give encryption keys to someone outside of the country is a huge violation.

Brother Adam
This is how a lot of business is done. I worked for a company where the boss would receive contract jobs with other companies for a set amount and then he would pay engineers to go out and do the work - for a lot less than what he had contracted for. The owner is still on the hook though if one of his engineers screws up. It happens all the time. In this case he was an actual employee paid to do something himself and then actually outsourced it to china. That's ballsy.
