Kateri89
For the Roman Catholics, have you ever gone to an Eastern Rite church? I went to a Maronite church once. It was fascinating :proud: There's also a Ukrainian Catholic church near me that I want to go to just to check it out.
Basilisa Marie
Yes! They're so cool! :) I've been to a Maronite church a few times, a Byzantine church once, and a Greek Orthodox liturgy once (though the Greek Orthodox wasn't Catholic, for obvious reasons - my professor had invited a friend and I to accompany him at his parish for the liturgical experience. But it was still similar in a lot of ways to not-Roman rites). I'm very much a "Novus Ordo with traditional choir" type of Roman, but I loved the Maronite and Byzantine liturgies much in the same way I love the Tridentine Liturgy: they all really point to the shockingly beautiful transcendent nature of God. :) Edited January 18, 2013 by Basilisa Marie
Tantum Ergo
I've never been, but I'm very interested. I have quite a few friends who are Byzantine so I'm really interested in going to check it out. I don't know if there's one in my new area though. Nihil Obstat
I have been meaning to go for ages now. There is a Maronite Catholic and a Ukrainian Catholic church in my city, but I just have not gotten around to it yet.
PadrePioOfPietrelcino
I Have been to Eastern Catholic Liturgies both in the U.S. and Africa. we have a Byzantine Catholic mission here in town and I go from time to time. I do not remember exactly which Rite it was in Africa, but I know they were using the Liturgy of St John Crystosom
Mary+Immaculate<3
Ooh, well I haven't been to an Eastern Church before, but I did watch part of a Maronite liturgy online, and it is fascinating. I needed to go to bed, but I couldn't stop watching it. I go to TLM occasionally, which is another beautiful rite.
FutureSister2009
My Parish invited the local Ukranian Church to come celebrate Mass in the Eastern Rite at my Parish a couple of weeks ago for the week of Prayer for Christian Unity. I was unable to attend because I had returned to school. I had really wanted to go.I was fascinated by it as a Theology major. My "Devout Catholic" grandmother thought it was just a bunch of nonsense to have them come. I completely disagree. We just do things a little differently and that's fine. We are all united together in Communion with the Lord and that's the most important thing. I don't know much about the Maronite Catholics but I'll have to do research

The only difference I know of off hand are they don't have the prayers for the pope. I've been to Maronite, and Byzantine. I thought there might have been another I've been to but not that I can think of. I've been to both Ukranian and Ruthenian byzantine liturgies. Era Might
I live near the Melkite cathedral for this area. Been there a few times, the priest makes it a point to tell the people to participate, they're not there to be spectators. It's quite an experience surrounded by icons and incense.
