eagle_eye222001
Traditionally first? Sure. Likely to be first? Nope - Mark was first. :) Because Matthew and Luke probably drew from Mark and another source, because how else do you explain all the similarities between the three? I'm a fan of the Augustinian Hypothesis as it is a simplest solution to the order of gospels, utilizes the available historical evidence best (takes the Father's testimony to be true), and doesn't require the mythical Q-source that doesn't have any evidence for its existence, but only speculation with it's own problems. The similarities are explained in that each gospel was written with a different mission, to different groups of people. While the Two Source Hypothesis does explain some patterns, there are exceptions to the patterns it explains which it cannot explain. In fact some minor agreements between Matthew and Luke that Mark does not share cause some issues with the starting assumptions of the Two Source Hypothesis. Pax Well then. :) Although I'm still a Mark person, I salute your defense of Matthew.
eagle_eye222001
Well then. :) Although I'm still a Mark person, I salute your defense of Matthew. Thank you :) . I don't pretend my position is 100% correct. Debates of gospel order rely on a lot of unknowns. At the end of the day, gospel order does not really matter too much anyhow. It is fun to think about and try to figure out though. Pax

Groo the Wanderer
Q has nothing to do with the Gospels. All Q revealed was the existence of the Borg.
Anastasia13
Matthew. It's pragmatic, of the Gospels it is more on the Jewish and less on the Greek side, concrete, most known to me, and not a bad read.
