PadrePioOfPietrelcino
I like this thread already :) I have been thinking about doing the same. Until now I have only made 2 surplices (1 with lace, 1 without) for myself, but I can easily do some other stuff too I guess. Nicely done, I personally like square neck surplices rather than round neck surplices. I like this thread already :) I have been thinking about doing the same. PadrePioOfPietrelcino
http://s1277.beta.photobucket.com/user/GammaEagle/library/Vestment%20Embroidery I'm working on the embroidery...I'm thinking this first one will end up being a practice as I haven't done much embroidery in awhile and my skills are a little rusty. I had to make my own pattern. It turned out pretty decent.
EmilyAnn
Nice. :like: The other day I came across an awe.some book on church vestments. Because it's so old (published 1868) it's in public domain so you can download it. It's not "light" reading as such but it's really really interesting. PadrePioOfPietrelcino
I wanted some basic patterns that I could then alter to suit my needs. I ordered a book on vestments and it arrived today... http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Elegant-Vestment-Patterns-Instructions/dp/143927181X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361429815&sr=8-1&keywords=20+simple+and+elegant+vestment+patterns I also got a Butterick Cassock pattern in my size... Now accepting donations of fabric :)
PadrePioOfPietrelcino
Well, I made a cassock during the last week, it turned out pretty decent for a first attempt. Totally usable, but a few small puckers and my tension was a little tight. For those that don't know the full symbolism of a traditional Roman Cassock here it is. There are 33 buttons down the front for the 33 years of Christ''s life The collar opening is or inch for the oneness of God Three pleats in the back for the trinity The cuffs are folded back seven inches for the sacraments Each cuff as five buttons for the five wounds of Christ, and when the cuffs are considered together the 10 total buttons remind us f the 10 commandments I hope you all enjoy the new pics. http://s1277.beta.photobucket.com/user/GammaEagle/media/image-14_zps1c87d93c.jpg.html?sort=3&o=3 http://s1277.beta.photobucket.com/user/GammaEagle/media/image-14_zps69275af2.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1 http://s1277.beta.photobucket.com/user/GammaEagle/media/image-14_zps2eef0673.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2 http://s1277.beta.photobucket.com/user/GammaEagle/media/image-14_zps494eedd1.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 I would have liked to use black lining as well, but the maroon was $2.00 cheaper per yard, and nobody sees the lining anyway... Any comments are welcome. I'm liking the colors and I want to do the real ones in flat silk and gold thread. It is 6 3/4 inches in diameter and it the first embroidery project I have done in almost 20 years...
PadrePioOfPietrelcino
I can't quite figure out how to embed the pic rather than just post a link. Edited March 23, 2013 by PadrePioOfPietrelcino
CatholicCid
Ppop, you need to use an image extension, not just the link to the page of the picture. So, when you have the image on your photobucket, left-click the image and select "Open image in new window/tab" and use that address (which will end in .jpg, .gif, etc...) EmilyAnn
Ooo I like it! The only part I'm not sure about is the outline on the flowers. It's a little dark. But if it's too light it'll blend in with the background. Maybe a different colour for those outer leaves?
