PadrePioOfPietrelcino
So I've done a fair bit of sewing in my day (make my own dress shirt, bow ties, pants ect) and along the way learned how to do some embroidery, although I'm not the best at embroidery I do fair. So I have a friend getting Ordained this spring to the transitional deaconate (sp?) and I decided to make him a Stole, Maniple and Dalmatic set for his ordination present. I designed a Marian piece for embroidery to go on it. I was soliciting feedback at the Parish yesterday...and now my project has grown HUGE...I am now in the long term project of 2 deacon sets, 1 celebrant set, and 2 Concelebrant sets, and altar set all matching of course so that I can give the one present...and give the other to the Parish so when all the priests and the Deacon are there for Christmas and Easter they can all wear matching vestments...How do I get myself into these things? I need to figure out how to post pictures in the phorum again and I'll keep you updated on the progress.

PadrePioOfPietrelcino
http://s1277.beta.photobucket.com/user/GammaEagle/media/image-14_zps60081114.jpg.html I have this picture in my photobucket account. It's the embroidery design...The orangish color will actually be done in gold Mylar, and the pink will be softer. As well I'm pretty sure I'll do the rosary ring in the gold, but I haven't made that decision final yet. The total size of the piece is about 8" diameter. And it's "diaconate" for future reference (At least I think it is used in that way.)

EmilyAnn
Best thread on Phatmass ever! I love the design - I've seen something similar done before. My favourite embroidery site is this one. She does fabulous tutorials and does quite a lot of vestments/ecclesiastical embroidery/etc.

CatherineM
Same thing happened to my mom. To keep me in school after a lunchroom incident involving a mustard packet and a Carmelite nun, she had to make our principal a new habit. I felt like if you wander into the firing line you do so at your own peril, however my principal and my mom didn't agree. After she made one habit, they all had to have new ones. Then the priests noticed the nuns were all sporting new duds, and wanted in on it. My poor non-catholic mom had to learn how to make lots of weird stuff. I had to help because it was all my fault in the first place. I supported myself for a couple of years making custom clerical shirts.

NonNovi
I like this thread already :) I have been thinking about doing the same. Until now I have only made 2 surplices (1 with lace, 1 without) for myself, but I can easily do some other stuff too I guess.
