I wasn't feeling well last night or this morning so I didn't attend Mass. I've been feeling better so I figured I could go to Mass and then go into work a bit later than usual. My workplace is 24/7 coverage so as long as there's coverage it's not insanely important to keep exactly to the hours you have - especially if you work things out with your co-workers. We have a mid-shift person who last week and apparently today just hasn't shown up. Usually our early shift works doubles but she couldn't extend her hours for me because she has somewhere to be. In general I'm a little annoyed because I ALWAYS stick to my schedule on weekends whereas my co-workers take certain liberties. Anyway. I found a 4 Mass time so at worst I'd go into work at 5:30, an hour later than I'm scheduled. I'm trying to get in touch with my co-worker, the only one on, and have been trying the past 2 hours to see if being an hour late (as opposed to 3, which it would've been) would be okay. But she's not answering. I'm not sure if I should risk going in late because Mass is just that important or just not go to Mass at all because of my work obligation (even though Mass obligation trumps that). I'm really in a jam, I should've just sucked it up and gone this morning so now that's making me feel extremely guilty.

And there's essentially no such thing as finding coverage on the weekend at my place of work, believe me. I actually already tried one person to just cover 3 hours for me. Times past I've asked over a dozen people and got "no" across the board, so yeah.

Well I decided it's not right to screw over my co-worker so I'm going to go in on time. I just feel miserable.

sorry, i just got home and saw this. that's kind of a tough place to be. :( i would make a spiritual communion, and then just talk it over with your priest next time you go to confession.

I think you did your best in trying to get there, you had every intention of going, and therefore it's not your fault really.  You've tried to get people to cover you.  Talk it over with the priest, as Red said, next Confession, but if your Confessor is anything like mine, you'll probably be told "no intent, no mortal sin".

Ash Wednesday

My advice in addition to everyone else's is to not beat yourself up over it. It's not like you knew the day would pan out the way it would. Sometimes illness and stupid stuff that comes up gets in the way.

Thanks everyone. I did the spiritual communion before I left, Red.

It turns out the phones in the office went down (which is a common thing...smh) which is why I couldn't get through. The midshift girl is going through a hard time right now so prayers for her please.

Interesting ... the phone was down, so you couldn't get through, yet you got to work to be there for the midshift girl.  :)  I like "Godincidences."

Agreed with what everyone says -- God doesn't ask you to do the impossible.  If you planned on one thing and something happened to interrupt your plan, oh well (out of your hands).  If you were doing your best to fulfill your duties at work and with Church, then you're fine.
