jazzytakara
My boyfriend and I got into an argument yesterday which proved him more atheist than agnostic, and me a failure at defending my faith and bringing others to it. He believes there is no way God could exist due to the evil in the world. I tried to explain the notion of free will in regards to sin and temptation and he refutes by saying that God created the mind of the person and as such it is His fault. He views it ridiculous to forgive those who wrong you, and that the 'rules and regulations' are pointless to follow all to appease a God who either isn't there or doesn't care. His number one argument was that's how could God exists, care about us, and have a plan for us while his mother is suffering from stage 4 cancer and could die from it. I don't know own how to answer that can someone help me...
CatherineM
God is a good parent. Good parents know that their kids will make mistakes and suffer illnesses. We can't protect our kids from everything without ruining their lives. Everyone has to die. Our 57 year old next door neighbor died sitting in a chair a few days ago. It wasn't fair. My mom survived seven bouts of cancer to die in her sleep just short of 90. Yet, she buried all her younger siblings and three grandsons. What was fair about that? Enduring a long death from cancer at least allows you to prepare yourself, your family and your affairs. My neighbor's daughter is spending all her time trying to figure out where her dad's papers are. We make ourselves nuts trying to figure out stuff beyond our pay grade. Right now all he can see is pain and loss. Don't try to explain the unexplainable. Just be present for him right now.
