The Washington National Cathedral, the nation’s traditional host of prayer services for presidents and memorial services for national tragedies, announced on Wednesday that it would now also hold weddings for same-sex couples.

Someone please inform a new Catholic:

1) WHY WHY WHY?!

2) Can/will the Holy Father do anything about this?!

Oh, God help us!

The National Cathedral is not Catholic, so as Nihil says, the Pope cannot do anything about it.

"National Cathedral". The name kind of says it all. We should rename it "Dear Leader Holy Super Good State Wonder Palace". Paint it with the blood of those who disobey.

There is nothing for the Holy Father to do because the "National Cathedral" is not Catholic.

Although it is true that the Pope cannot stop the Episcopal Church (and other Protestant sects) from performing "gay" weddings at the National Cathedral, he can issue an order that basically ends all ecumenical activity (i.e., cooperation and dialogue) with the Episcopal Church, and any other Protestant group that supports this sort of immortal agenda.  To be honest, the Catholic Church should have broken off ecumenical relations with the Episcopalians when they began ordaining women back in the 1970s.

Sad but true. :( At this point in time I do not think there is anything to be gained through dialogue with the Episcopalians, especially the American Episcopalians of Katharine Jefferts Schori's ilk.
