MrsFrozen
I am getting to be good friends with a nice gal I met from church. She's really nice, and a great mom to her three kids. Well, the two older kids are girls, and the other day we were discussing what music she lets her kids listen to. She told me that she would never let them listen to Britney Spears (thank God!), but she loves Jessica Simpson because she is a Christian, prays before every concert, and her father is a minister. I didn't really know what to say. Not to sound judgemental, but I understand that Jessica Simpson really isn't a great role model for girls. I know she did a Maxim spread, and I saw a blurb of her TV show and it made me uncomfortable. She spent thousands of dollars on a set of sheets for her bed. Anyhow, just wonder what others thought of this. God bless.
ilovechrist
think of it this way-- she's a heck of a lot better than Christina Aguilera, Tyra Banks, or any of those.. Jessica Simpson is actually turning what crappy, Britney-like career she had around, and with faithful husband Nick, they're doing a pretty good job. sure, there are a few eyebrows raised at some things, but at least it's not as bad as it could be. Iacobus
She is "Christian" and claims God told her to sing. Okay maybe He did, but I doubt he wants those photos taken. We need better singers, lol.

BeenaBobba
I don't mind Jessica Simpson, but I wouldn't call her a role model, per the reasons some of you pointed out. She's pretty innocent in comparison to many other musical "artists" out there, but I wouldn't go so far to say that she's completely benign. A lot of times, it seems to me, people who were strong Christians prior to striking gold in Hollywood sort of fall into the Hollywood lifestyle, although probably not as deeply as those who go into the game without strong faith. On an episode of Newlyweds, Jessica annoyed everyone by saying "Oh my gaw" instead of you-know-what. She also seemed sort of surprised when a condom commercial came on TV. But as you all know, she doesn't exactly dress modestly, and some of her songs aren't appropriate, especially for younger listeners (e.g., "The Sweetest Sin"). That being said, I wouldn't want my future kids to look up to her as a role model, so I would limit the contact they had with music, shows, etc. (I won't let my young kids watch MTV, and if my teenage kids were to watch it, they'd only be allowed to watch certain shows.) God bless, Jennifer
toledo_jesus
I think she is showing her 'sexy' side now that she is married. If you recall, she and Nick waited til their wedding night to consummate their relationship. Her image was virginal before. Now she is capitalizing on her looks. What I find interesting is that since she's a married woman I actually look at those actions with more distaste than if she was living the single life. Christina Aguilera though. She's the worst of em.

crusader1234
I think Jessica Simpson is someone I'd be comfortable having my kids look up to. Sure they edited the show to make her look stupid, but if my kids aren't smart I'm not going to hold it against them. If she's Christian enough to say oh my gaw instead of the usual line, thats a good sign. The two major issues that I sort of agree with are the thing about her spending thousands of dollars on sheets, and the immodesty. I cant explain away those sheets, but as for the immodesty, shes a lot better than the other ones (compare Jessica's Rolling Stone cover to Christina Aguileras). She does stay on the modest side of the female popstars, and being the housewife of the year promotes the idea of attractivet women saving themselves. As opposed to Britney (who has a song on her album about getting to know her hands a bit more intimately) or Christina (who well... knows everything intimately). If more girls that looked like Jessica Simpson saved themselves for marriage and prayed before concerts and whatever, there would be a lot more happy Catholic men and probably a lot less insecure Catholic women. Luthien
Why look up to pop stars in the first place? I never did. I never let any female pop stars influence who I was. As for immodesty, read Theology of the Body by Pope John Paul II, theres my sex ed...

Oik
Well, Genie in a bottle was harmless and so was sometimes I run and it went to worse. and worse to terrible. Nope, not a role model for anyone, especially if I had kids. Besides, tv was made for one station, EWTN.
