Proper Usage Of The Term "divine"

Gabriela

Recommended Posts

Clearly, God is divine. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are divine. I think I have heard angels referred to as divine beings. But perhaps that are more properly referred to as "supernatural" beings? Is only God "divine"? What about the saints victorious? Are they now considered "divine" or only "supernatural" beings?

Simply put: What, precisely, does the term "divine" refer to?

Divine, as a title can mean lofty or near God. The Gospel of John has been called the divine gospel because of its lofty theology for instance. Divinity belongs to God alone, as you posit. He allows us a communion with him through his Son.
