PadrePioOfPietrelcino
Yesterday I got a call inviting me over to a New Year party being held by one of my friends who was an officer I was deployed with. He is really interested in wanting to join the Church, however his wife grew up LDS and now is extmemly anti organized religion. Somehow...in short order the topic of the Party got on religion...I promise I didn't start it...I was set up. Well long story short I sat at the bar drinking my drinks and fielding questions about the faith. I used to think I studied too much...I mean why does the average lay person really need to understand Aquinas' argument about the lack of matter in the Angels? NOW, I feel so underprepared for these random stump the Catholic sessions I end up in all the time. However at the end of an 8 hour session the wife admitted that she wasn't in argreement with me, but she could find no logical holes in what I presented and she understood why I believed what I did (huge achievement, thank-you God). I was also told by the wanna be convert, his anti-Religious wife, and the agnostic/athiest that they all think I would be a good priest. In short I am always amazed when we are called to give a defense of what we believe and somehow you find yourself prepared to meet the situation, and you can see fruit from the labor as a definite possibility in the future. Anybody else find themselves defending the faith often in these types of situations? Sometimes I do my laundry at the laudra-bar ( yes a bar IN the laundromat...), and they have gotten to know me well enough now that I sit down to grab a beer and somebody buys me one and then the religion questions start...when the beer is done somebody else buys one and they get to ask the questions...I have to pace myself otherwise I would have dry clean laundry and no way to get it home cause I would be too drunk to walk. I can't believe we haven't crossed paths before.
