foundsheep
My brother and I had a discussion about baptism. He doesnt like the Catholic one baptism stance. Can you give me some pointers? He claims Jesus was baptised twice.
Pio Nono
JMJ 5/24 - Seventh Monday of Easter foundsheep, I'd be interested to see where the "second" baptism of Jesus is located in the Gospels. At any rate, let's use an analogy to show why Baptism can only be received once. Let's say your soul is a pane of glass. There are certain ways that you and I can make glass look prettier; for instance, we can stain glass into the image of a saint. Once glass is stained (as I understand it), it can't be "unstained," much less made to look a different color. Our souls are similar; there are ways God can beautify our soul. The most important of these ways is through three sacraments which mark our souls ontologically (that means, on the very being of our soul) - these sacraments are Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders. Now, if our soul is marked - let's say blue - by Baptism, there is no need to "re-mark" it; it's already done been marked! (for your grammarians, that tense is the "Texas Perfect") Hope this helps. Yours, Pio Nono
