Question On Confession

When a priest gives you absolution, he is giving you an assurance of your forgiveness. The priest isn't God ;) and thus when he grants that your sins are forgiven, its not like it would make a hoot of a difference if God didn't forgive your sins, but the nice thing about ordained clergy, is that they have been given that gift of Holy Orders and as scripture says, can give absolution.

However, just praying to God works too. If you are truly repentant, God will forgive your sins. Confession is only especially needed when you commit a mortal sin and need the sacrament of reconciliation- that is, to be reconciled to the Body of Christ.

I know exactly how you feel Mrs Bro Adam.....

I had to wait until the morning of the Saturday of Easter Vigil to make confession and the weeks before that I felt I was going to explode....it felt like I was wallowing in muck. I also began to panic....what if I died before I had made confession?

It was truely amazing to start my life in the church with what felt like a completely clean heart though, and receiving the Blessed Sacrament after the Sacrament of Pnance was just incredible. It's an amazing gift.....

All Catholics have an obligation to confess every mortal sin, except those covered by the grace of baptism. BUT!

Sometimes a priest won't be available, or sometimes the priest will want you to wait until they know you understand the sacrament.

And God thought of that too! :) You are forgiven the moment you repent. Not necessarily the moment you confess.

I felt the same way! Confession truly is good for the soul ... I loved it once I did it!

So...technically, because I'm a baptized Catholic, I can go to confession and receive that sacrament, but if I didn't, I'd still be forgiven as long as I'm repentant? Is that correct?

Thy Geekdom Come
(for example I'm a leftie so I always had been genuflecting on my left knee, which through RCIA I found out you are only suppose to kneel on your right knee)
You're a lefty? Oh...this just won't work out at all...you'll have to stay Baptist, no lefties allowed... :P

jk...my brother's a lefty!

It should be stated that one must be truly repentant and that the Church teaches you should go to sacramental confession as soon as possible after a true repentence conversion, to be sure of things.
