If a condo is being advertised as 'adult oriented', what does that mean? Does it refer to not having facilities to entertain kids, or does it refer to a building that does not allow children?

We're going to view the place on Saturday. But the place is already a pet free building (although not a deal breaker, pretty disappointing), but if its a building not friendly for families with children then I don't want to live there for 30+ years. My boyfriend and I are looking for a condo, he loves this place, but I feel like I'd have to give up too much if I have to move to a place that doesn't allow for children. My boyfriend says he wants children and marriage someday, he also said he wanted a dog...so this place just doesn't seem to fit, but he says its perfect. I'm confused. Trying to talk to him about it..

It probably means there aren't any kids around, it's not kid-friendly, people throw loud parties, act like immature young adults, etc.

Or maybe it's a whorehouse.

Maybe the dog should come first, then the marriage, then the condo.

Or marriage, condo, dog. Maybe followed by kids?

Marriage, house, kids, German shepherd named Leopold or Reginald is what I'd recommend.

I'd vote Reginald, but then again I've been biased against Leopold ever since I learned about what Belgium did to parts of Africa. :|  (Not intended to be snarky, just truth lol.)

We checked other units being advertised for that building, and they say that it is a pet friendly building and there is no rules against kids (main clientele is young couples and retirees, most young couples tend to get married and want to start a family..so I doubt they could be anti-kid, but I may have to go elsewhere to find a park). We booked two viewings, one on the 19th floor, the other on the 26th floor for tomorrow. I plan to ask the sellers about the pet policies and the neighbourhood type. You can renovate  a home, but you can't change the neighbourhood you live in.

I agree with the above orders of how things should be going, things are weird in my life. I will be moving closer to my parish though...yay daily mass!

Typically, adult-oriented condo developments mean that management actively prefers that individuals/couples without children live there. Typically, children aren't explicitly prohibited (one exception, see below) but that particular development may not necessarily be an ideal environment to raise a child in - due to lack of play spaces, noise codes and ordinances, specific condo policies regarding potential condo damage, etc. The target clientele is likely to be residents without children, but most likely having kids while residing there won't be an issue.

Your profile says you reside in Ontario, so I'm not sure if there are any laws or regulations on the books in either your Province or in Canada as a whole which prevent discrimination in housing against families with children - or even laws on the books that allow housing authorities to ban kids under certain circumstances. From experience, there are condos here in the US - particularly in Florida - where because of the high numbers of senior citizens that reside there, permanent residents under 16/18 are prohibited.
