Summit Dominicans Professions!

How wonderful!  Thank you for sharing.

Don't you wish we could see the army Our Lord is putting together as each new aspirant, postulant, novice, and professed sister or nun, monk and priest take their place on the front lines of the Church Militant.  Pray for the ears of the faithful to be opened that many may hear the clear call of Our Holy Bridegroom and respond with abandonment to His Divine Providence!

Two Simple Professions and 1 Solemn Profession!

Sister Mary Catharine---May I ask a question? If the answer is none of my business I understand. Also, somehow I missed your original post at the time you made it, and I know that right now your Community is in active preparation for Christmas (both spiritually and more temporal preparations), so if you don't answer this post, I will understand.

I was surprised that Sister Joseph Maria will not make her solemn profession until May 31. If I remember correctly (which I may not) Sister Joseph made her simple profession in early February(?). I came up with two possible reasons why Sister Joseph Maria might not be making her solemn profession in February

--May 31 is SUCH a wonderful day to make a solemn profession. And, perhaps this feast is particularly special to Sister Joseph Maria. (Not to mention that flowers will be plentiful at that time of year!)

--If I remember, for either Sister Joseph Maria's clothing or simple profession, several members of her family were not able to be there because of weather problems. May 31 should have much better weather (especially with a whole Community of nuns and a multitude of friends praying for good weather).

By the way, I LOVE the new Summit calendar for 2013. (To VS folks: The Summit online Cloister Shoppe is now closed until January, but perhaps there will still be some calendars left when the Shoppe reopens.)  One thing I especially like is that the calendar gives the feast days of each of the Summit nuns, so we can pray for individual nuns on "their" day. The calendar also includes the feast days of numerous saints, and I have written in the feast days of a few more saints who are special to me (the calendar has plenty of room for that).

Unfortunately, I can't help teasing you that one saint missing from your calendar is St. Catherine of Siena.  :hehe2:  Actually, I felt for everyone involved with producing the calendar when I saw this. I spent a good part of my career producing reports, papers etc, and inevitably, no matter how many times an important piece was proofread, there was ALWAYS at least one typo. Keeps us humble, I guess.

Whether you see this post before or after Christmas, my prayers are with the whole Community in this Advent/Christmas season.

Yes, you are correct! Those are the reasons why SJM's profession will be in May. She petitioned to renew her profession in February and asked for May 31st which is one of her favorite feasts. Her mom and dad are elderly and she didn't want them stuck in a snowstorm. For her First Profession a group of friends got stuck in Atlanta and couldn't be here.

That is so funny about the calendar! I can't wait to tell the other sisters! The sister in charge had many difficulties and it nearly didn't get printed. Unfortunately, we are not only "sold out" we sisters didn't get one ourselves for our family!

Thank you for your Christmas wishes and prayers! All of you are in ours!

I cannot say I blame her for wanting May 31st as her Day of Solemn Profession.  I LOVE the Feast of the Visitation -- so much so that I cry when I read it in the Gospel or pray the Mystery of the Visitation during the Rosary.

The mystery of the Visitation is a favorite mystery for the Nuns of the Order of Preachers because our Lady receives the Word and immediately she wants to share that Word with others. We "share the fruits of our contemplation" just as much as the other branches but in a unique way. In contemplating the Word become Flesh, like St. Dominic, we carry the sinners, the down-trodden and the afflicted in the "innermost sanctuary of our compassion."

May in NJ is really lovely! We have a real Spring and in fact it just might be a little too warm!
