Archangel Raphael
why should you go to war though when God tells you not to kill and im only talken about if you do not want to go to war but if you do not want to, i dont think you should be forced to go into war, a war that the pope does not even support....i know war must come, but im not about world domination, nor will i ever be
The commandment states in reality, Thou shall not MURDER. Murdering, and killing are two different things. Many have confused it with killing when murder is premeditation and out of hate. Killing, can be in defense of yourself or someone else. If you ever do go to war, you'll be defending not only your country, but the rest of the world from growing terrorism. Cause how can you say God says not to kill when He Himself has killed many? Just read through the old testiment, He's killed thousands and thousands of the wicked, wiped them out, even women and children. We sometimes focus on Him being so lovy dovy all the time, when it says that He doesn't change, He still is also a God of judgement as well as a God of love. lilac_angel
Brother Adam - I didn't know it was that easy to get out of killing. I hope that stays in effect, if there is another draft. Not everyone's talent is to kill, and not everyone's family is destined to have its father or mother obliterated. There are many ways of aiding the forces of good. Brother Adam
lilac_angel, It isn't that easy actually. You cannot just check a box that says "CO" and be out of it. You need to have proof that you felt the way you do since the war started (typically Sept. 11). This can be done through character witnesses who can attest to you opposition to the war. You can also submit the evidance that the Pope is against the war, assuming you've been a Catholic since before the war started. (I would be in trouble because I won't be a Catholic until right before the draft would begin) I also wanted to mention women will not be drafted. Guest
so the probablity of this draft happening is very likely or wut ?
azaelia
...and this time, it'll include females.
 Abuh? Well at least I can breathe a sigh of relief. I'd never make it past the physical. I'm underweight, I have arthritis in my knees, my foot spasms every once in a while, and I have asthma... Dude...I'm a wreck.

Brother Adam
The possibility exists, but not THAT likely. Every war brings with it the "scare" of the draft being used. If they drafted people next year it would be as replacements for those who have been over there for several years now and the draft would be for 3 years (last I was told). I wouldn't worry about it too much right now. If the draft did go into effect. Everyone who is registered would be put into a pool. They would randomly (computer randomly) select dates. Those who's birthday lands on a date would be called up. 20 year olds are drafted first, followed by 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25. Rarely would 18 and 19 year olds be drafted. I heard they were thinking of increasing the age to 35, too. Edited May 24, 2004 by lilac_angel
Brother Adam
You can find all the information you need at: http://www.sss.gov/
Notwithstanding recent stories in the news media and on the Internet, Selective Service is not getting ready to conduct a draft for the U.S. Armed Forces -- either with a special skills or regular draft. Rather, the Agency remains prepared to manage a draft if and when the President and the Congress so direct. This responsibility has been ongoing since 1980 and is nothing new. Further, both the President and the Secretary of Defense have stated on more than one occasion that there is no need for a draft for the War on Terrorism or any likely contingency, such as Iraq. Additionally, the Congress has not acted on any proposed legislation to reinstate a draft. Therefore, Selective Service continues to refine its plans to be prepared as is required by law, and to register young men who are ages 18 through 25. And I'm not gonna sit there and be all lovy to a bunch of fanatical freaks who will kill without thought unless God seriously graces me otherwise. There is balance with everything, God is a God of balance. Just as God said Himself in Ecclesiastes 3: 1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. And I know some ppl wanna come and say "Yea but Jesus changed that." Nuh uh, Jesus didn't come to change a thing, he FULLFILLED the Law. He said so Himself, "What I do is by My Father in Heaven." (Powerphrased of course) So there is a season for everything, yes there is a time to turn the cheek, yet there is also a time to war. Though as I said, just don't worry about it. If you're not meant to be in the war God won't allow it, just trust in Him, that's all.

lilac_angel
Brother Adam: Thanks for the link. I hope they don't increase the drafting age (i.e. people who are over 25 would still be eligible). I heard talk about that, too.
