MissyP89
I feel violent whenever I hear the sound of chewing gum. But I'm not sure it's the same thing. You try ibuprofen? Might be a slight earache.
WillT
I have that same issue. It doesn't even have to be someone smacking or anything, just the sound of eating. It's weird. My mom is the same way.
Spem in alium
The sound of chewing really unnerves me. *shudder*
xTrishaxLynnx
Wow, I'm not the only one!? I'm really relieved about that. Sorry for you guys, though, that you join me in this suffering. :( How do y'all deal with it? I generally just have to remove myself from the area, which is awkward at times... Sometimes the fridge she's had for years can annoy her so she can't stand to be in the kitchen, or it's just the sound of a TV or radio, or a group of people just talking. She was checked out by DR, but they could find nothing wrong. I think my wife suffers from it sometimes. She's told me she's woken up at night and is enraged I'm still breathing. What's up with that? AnneLine
Some of my best friends... and they come in liturgically correct colors, too!!!! I agree they aren't pretty... but they allow you a little hearing (so you can react to emvergencies) but block out the harsher noises. Keep me SANE (well, sane-er)

xTrishaxLynnx
When I plug my ears it doesn't always help, especially when the dog is drinking or cleaning herself. UGH that's almost got to be the worst... And when I tell people that it bothers me and they continue to do it, it only makes the feelings worse, so I try to keep my mouth shut about it. (hehe... mouth shut... :| Wish they'd follow my example...) Edited December 11, 2012 by xTrishaxLynnx
AccountDeleted
I have very sensitive hearing so I second the ear plugs suggestion. I wear a rubber kind that have a string to connect them so I don't lose them if they fall out, especially while I am asleep. I don't wear them all the time, but I like to have them in cinemas, where the noise level is always uncomfrtably high for me and I wear them to sleep because I wake up at the slightest sound and don't get a restful night's sleep. They do help, and as AL says, they allow a small amount of sound to filter in, but not enough to be painful or disturbing. There are many types for comfort, some are malleable so you can shape them to your ears, like the foam ones, but I have found the rubber ones with the string work best for me and I lose them less often. Deb
I can't handle noise at all. It is hard to even go out to eat because every place has to have tv's going or music blaring or people sitting around talking. I can't go to the Mall, complete overload. People talking in church.......the horror. Noise everywhere. Do not tap your fingers on the table when you talk.
IcePrincessKRS
There are little things that make my skin crawl, like gritting teeth, or the weird squeaky sound of someone biting fabric, but nothing quite as bad as what you guys are describing.
