Hey Phatmassers,

The new organization that I help with is growing fast!

Life Site News just did a full article on us. I am busy writing and preparing two full training courses which will go live next February. We are active in 15 cities so far, with many other groups preparing to go live. If you are interested in starting Street Evangelization in your area, please let me know. It is very easy to get started and become a local coordinator, and very rewarding.

We need to sticky a thread about this or something.  Every month or so we get a new thread.   :hehe2:

That being said, I LOVE  SPSE.

I am really interested in getting a group started in my diocese. We don't have much of that around here. And we need it. Only 28% catholic.

PM me, I can help you get started the171.

And yes, I am shameless... :)

But it is having a huge impact throughout the nation. We need to get out there and share our faith.

I think it's awesome!

I'd love to see it in my diocese, and even help out with it.

Although I am a little intimidated by the idea of being such an imperfect missionary of such a perfect faith...

I really, really would like to get involved with this someday soon.

I pray for y'all as often as I can remember, which, unfortunately, isn't often enough.

Contact me. If there is not already a local group in your area I can help you get one started. We do not charge teams anything and depend 100% on supporting members and donors to operate.

I am honestly not trying to be snark in asking this but how is this any different from the decades long practice of 'counseling' people about abortion?  This seems to just be the exact same thing that Catholic social justice groups have been focusing on for decades.  It's basically 'Jesus yay, abortions boo'

um.... while I'm sure SPSE is pro-life, my impression is that this is not really a pro-life effort. It's an evangelizing, tell-people-about-Jesus effort. I doubt abortion comes up that much. Or am I missing what you were trying to say?

No.  You got exactly what I was saying.  I only read one of the articles but it just seemed to all go back to abortion.  Like the guy who founded this made some statement about how abortion is a symptom not a cause if the cultural collapse, in his view, but then everything seemed to go back to abortion or gay marriage.

I have friends that are involved in SPSE, they literally go out into the streets of Portland with their blanket and rosaries and pamphlets and answer all kinds of questions about God and Catholicism.   The difference is that they're totally non-confrontational.  At least in Portland, it's pretty common to see people set up shop somewhere to tell people about their "cause."  Sidewalk counselors come off with a "negative" message ("please don't get an abortion"), whereas SPSE people have a "positive" message ("come talk to me about God stuff! It's awesome!").

I think it's a similar idea, but with SPSE the goal is less about confronting people and telling them they're wrong and more about clearing up misconceptions about Catholicism and having conversations about the faith with people on their own terms.

I could be wrong, but at least that's how the organization has seemed to me.
