Starets
Well, I'm committed. On Monday March 11 I will be winging my way to Albuquerque and thence to Pecos to do volunteering for Pecos Abbey. I will be given Room and Board and possibly some sort of stipend and I can stay for up to two years. I would still be interest in LAMP or Dorothy's Place (In Salinas, California) in case this doesnt work out. The downside is that I am now almost completely broke so my aunt let me borrow her credit card to pay the bill. The retreat center is still putting me off about doing their website. They say they'll be ready for me to start addign new content to their websiite tomorrow and this time they really mean it. So maybe I wil get some spending money out of that. Starets
I am now at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Pecos. there are two Benedictine abbeys in New Mexico with that name but the other one is affiliated with the SSPX. So far so good, they are letting me stay in the cloister area. it is a small community with only 8 monks and the average age is well into the 70's. I will be here for up to two years and I might just decide to pursue a possible vocation here. They run a large retreat center and have a hired staff of 10 to help out. there just arent enough monks here and many of them are not in good health. But it is great to be back in the monastic saddle again. It is run by the Olivetan Benedictines. Compared to Christ in the Desert or St. mary's the horarium is quite lax but then again it is an active community and getting on in years. Just thought I would pop in!.
