Colleen, good point about the Tolkien references. I have listened to a lot of LZ over the years, didn't do too much damage, but admit their music doesn't exactly glorify God--perhaps it expresses the painful human NEED for God...(is that ever a roundabout way of looking at it)

In high school, I wrote a paper comparing 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'The Great Gatsby'--it was so cool to compare the two! Got an 'A' hahahahaha!

There are many bands that have satanic messages while played backwards. Seeing how many songs they made, it's not that hard to believe it would happen. You can do it to Metallica too. (and they claim to be Christian) I remember seeing it. But Led Zeppelin's had it a bit more clear.

I have a question...How can you willingly and knowlingly make your song say something coherent when played backwards? They were most likely stoned through most of their writing and recording sessions. How could they have the capacity to go "Oh, dude. This word would sound like this backwards, let's go with it..." <_<

I dont think that u can have the words intentionally come out like that when played backwards. It has to be a coincidence. one theory i read made sum sense. the place where that song was written was said 2 b haunted, the band member who wrote it said he went into a kind of trance when he wrote it. maybe the devil had a hand in it. i dunno

That trance was probably drug induced.
