Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
i don't like clapping after a homily at mass or singing happy b'day, i went to a mass where the priest got everyone to sing happy b'day to an elderly member after his homily before the gifts came and she died a week later, probably of shock i fear :( But in that i do goto a caresmatic mass sometimes and i like clapping to the beat during there modern hyms. They use alot of guitar, drum type music. Edited January 15, 2013 by Tab'le Du'Bah-Rye
Papist
Not a fan of the clapping inside of Mass. I do not and instruct my children not to clap.
tinytherese
This happens quite a bit at my parish. Last Sunday, the people who were going to our sister parish in Haiti were called up to be blessed and then Fr. asked for us to applaud. Then some people gave them a standing ovation and the rest of the parish followed. (I stood up to blend in so that nobody in my family would notice me being different because conversations about the liturgy and morality don't go well with them. I didn't clap though.) I'm also tired of lay people raising their hands in blessing at mass like what happened last Sunday. I've talked to my mom about how that's not an appropriate hand gesture, but to her, what the priest says goes. Our new priest makes jokes throughout the mass and comments on things in a comical manner which is also inappropriate. Occasional jokes in the homily are one thing, but constantly making jokes throughout the mass is irreverent. I appear to be the only one who thinks that though. I don't want to talk about it because I'll be told to "Lighten up." Edited January 16, 2013 by tinytherese
Nihil Obstat
I'm also tired of lay people raising their hands in blessing at mass like what happened last Sunday. I've talked to my mom about how that's not an appropriate hand gesture, but to her, what the priest says goes. Frankly, I think that is even worse than clapping during Mass. Lighten up is up there with my most hated comments, is that thread still running.? Edited January 16, 2013 by Tab'le Du'Bah-Rye
Papist
I get the classic rolling of the eyes with the "Good grief!!" from my family when I point such things out.
