OnlySunshine
Me too! :smile3: Dominican and Augustinian spiritualities kind of go hand-in-hand because the Dominicans follow the Rule of St. Augustine. I really wish there were more actual Augustinian communities in the United States besides the Augustinian Nuns in Illinois and the Sisters of St. Rita. I've often wondered, though, if I shouldn't visit the nuns in IL because I always feel attracted to them when I visit their website. I wonder if they offer non-discernment retreats? I don't like the idea of discerning with more than one community at a time but I would love to spend some time with the nuns. I've never visited a strictly contemplative community before. :)

OnlySunshine
I just realized that I don't know what spirituality my hopeful community follows. Their website is not very clear so I'm going to have to ask when I talk to the Superior again but I think they follow the foundress' Constitutions and the Ignatian spirituality. There is large emphasis on discerning the will of God in your life and they are big on promoting vocations within the Church. I think I need to get the book by Fr. Timothy Gallagher so I can familiarize myself with Ignatian spirituality. ETA: I just googled "Ignatian spirituality" and found a list of 10 characteristics. I can definitely see myself in this spirituality. 10 Characteristics of Ignatian spirituality Edited December 9, 2012 by MaterMisericordiae
nikita92
I noticed the Sisters of Saint Rita dont get alot of attention on here. Yet when I discovered them and checked out their website..I immediately felt drawn to them like a moth to a flame!!" (is that a sign) I love and comnected with everything I read. (I havent with others) I have revisted their website over and over. But..because of my age...I dont know if they would accept older women..and or if one needs to have a background in nursing..(which I do not) I work in the Security field..and have the most experiance in the PUBLIC domain.So...I guess Im under the impression that since the sisters take care of elders..I wouldnt be consider within their community..therefor I have not made a attempt to contact them :-/

All of their Sisters are older so I have a feeling that they will accept a woman of the same age. I don't believe you have to have a background in nursing. Not all the Sisters are nurses. There is one autobiography on there where one of the Sisters thought she would become a nurse but they asked her to study Home Economics instead. :)

Kateri89
I think Franciscan spirituality suits me the most. Interesting little tidbit about my discernment: One night I prayed and told God that I gave up trying to "figure out" which order I was called to. I was exhausted with all the research, etc. and I said "Whatever you want me to do, I'll do it!" The next day I went to mass and there was a car in the parking lot with a bumper sticker that said "Franciscans <3 u! 2b1 ask 1". I can't deny that I'm still attracted somewhat to Dominican orders but this is why I'm currently discerning with SSEW. Franciscan spirituality and a Dominican habit--what could be better? :hehe2:
