Anyone Been To Yemen?

Just wondering because we've been asked to go there by Tawakkol Karman. I normally do not fly, but when someone like that invites you, how do you say no? She was here getting an award at the U of A and we got invited to the reception.

I guess I need to make a Yankee burqa. If I get to snorkel in the Red Sea, it'd be worth the trouble of making a dive skin with a hood or should I just get a burkini?

Honestly, that primate I'm married to gets me into more messes.

All of the cab drivers in my area are from Yemen. They are always talking about what a beautiful place it is. Are you seriously thinking about going, Catherine? Look forward to hearing more!

How are you and your family doing, by the way? How's school going? Are you on a semester or quarterly system?

With my luck I'd get there in time for a drone attack.

don't worry, if they don't hit you then you are not a terrorist. the drones only get the bad guys..new fangled technology and all...

looked at the weather there... pretty nice... 72-99 year round. :)

We're fine. Dealing with the paperwork and social workers is a million times harder than dealing with James. Zach spent the weekend on maneuvers at a base up north. His corps had a big inspection on Monday from the heads in western Canada. They did so well they are going to get to host a visiting troop from Montreal in the spring.

He went early to help his Captain get ready for the inspection since it was basically her bosses coming. It gave me the opportunity to explain what the word initiative means. We are still doing a word a day to increase his vocabulary. His parole officer has encouraged him to become a police officer and he seems to really like the idea. So much so that we no longer have to drag him out of bed in the morning. He wants to get his diploma as soon as possible. So my words of the day have been legal ones lately.

I am actually considering going to Yemen. No idea why. I normally can't stand the idea of flying, but I don't know, something about it caught my interest. My classes are at my own pace, but I have to finish in 6 months from starting. I was hoping to finish each in 3, but with how busy we are most of the time, I haven't been able to do extra. I'm supposed to be working on an article for the Edmonton Journal on how mental illness can be a barrier to getting proper medical care and a speech for the Veterinarians on burnout. Today we have to sit through a 3 hour class on how to give medications that is required for James' care.

Most important of all, I have clean laundry to fold and put away.

Thanks for the update!

Sounds like MUCH to be grateful for this year...

Just think.... just about a year ago you were spending the night in jail....

Doesn't God have an uh, interesting, sense of humor?

yemen is not saudi arabia. veiling is not a law. most of them do it for tradition's sake ... but foreigners pretty much do their own thing where clothing is concerned. this swimwear company is popular with conservative muslim families in the US: https://splas004.secure.omnis.com/store/index.php
