I Need Advice - Urgently

I always figured that once you discerned out, vocational problems would no longer happen. However, I have come to the belief that they simply never end. The Franciscan Brothers Minor have been calling me, and today Brother Bonaventure asked me to check plane prices because a benefactor will fly me there and back. Part of me wants to go so I can discern religious life, but then another part of me realizes that I don't feel very called and to waste a benefactor's money would simply not be good. He wants me to call tomorrow, and this is eating me up. Should I say no? Should I go with it because it is okay to discern? It's just killing me and I don't know what to do. If your answer is that I should go, please check plane ticket prices from Wichita to Fort Wayne and back, because I don't know how to check.

Before anyone gives any advice on the matter, what is the current official situation with this girl, Emily?

I still really like her, but we're not dating and I do not plan to date her until we are in college.

Ha! If I had a dollar for every time that I thought the problems and fears would cease every time my discernment progressed....

First off, Be Not Afraid! God will not lead you where His Grace will not sustain you.

Second, I'm going to PM you. :)

If you don't want to go, don't convince yourself it's worth doing anyway - in that case just relax, you have a lot of time ahead of you. If you're unsure, you could tell him exactly how you feel right now, and see if he still thinks it's worth coming out there. He may say forget it, if he thinks it will just be a waste of their time.

To Jesus Through Mary

Tell Brother your situation, talk to your director, your parents and go from there. I will be praying for you FP!

Oh and how to check for prices just go onto one of those travel websites, plug in the dates you would go with the destination and it will give you prices. Here is the site I use. www.kayak.com, I did that destination with some random dates (the date changes the price a lot sometimes) and it was about 360

Well, I want to go. It's not that I don't want to. Visiting a Friary and living the life of a Friar for a few days (And maybe a week considering I'm flying there) would be so wonderful. But I'm not sure if I went I would be doing it for the right reasons. So I think I will just tell him my situation of not really feeling called, tell him it doesn't seem fair to spend a benefactor's money on it, and see what he thinks. If he thinks it is worth it for me to go even if I do not feel all that called, then I will do it. But if not, I guess I will not go. Thank you everyone for the advice (And thank you To Jesus Through Mary for the prices and the website!).

I would go. Being called to a vocation is not a feeling, many priests "feel" like being married every once in a while and plenty of married people "feel" like being in religious life. It's also like when a woman says "I don't feel very pregnant" well... it's not matter of being very pregnant or a little pregnant, or very called or a little bit called. If you haven't finished discernment, that is what these types of things are for. To help you discern.

Have you discussed all of your recent interior changes (and decisions) with your SD or even with the community you were discerning with? Perhaps they could help you to make this decision. You changed your mind kind of suddenly and it could change again just as suddenly because (believe it or not) that is what happens when one is young (and sometimes when one is old too! :) ). Seriously, ask those who are supposed to be giving you advice - your SD or your vocations director.

PS - and of course your parents!

Honestly, since your course has changed rather suddenly, I would still attend. Maybe this is God trying to tell you something through the Friar and you could be missing out on a wonderful opportunity. Even if you are not called, being with them will bring extraordinary graces through their presence. :)
