It's okay that you think that, because you have at least seen it. So long as you love The Lord of the Rings this friendship may continue. I will be sure that she sees it. She also has never seen Star Wars, but my brother-in-law has decided to take that duty upon himself.
The best order to watch them for a newbie is Episodes 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6. Trust me on this one. GeorgiiMichael
FTFY.
Shush. The Prequel Trilogy is good even if it isn't as good as the originals.
When I first watched them it was three, four, five, six, one, two, and three again. I felt watching the old ones before the new ones (Except for three) was beneficial.
That order adds tension to Return of the Jedi. Think about it. If you watch it last, who have you seen Force choke people up to that point? Sith and only Sith. Who have you seen wearing black? Sith. Now you open up the film and Luke is wearing all black, Force chokes two Gamorreans and is faced with the temptations of the Dark Side for most of the movie, especially the end where the Emperor is trying to convert him. This whole process would be more suspenseful if you wait to watch Return of the Jedi until after you watch the Prequel Trilogy. Also, framing your viewing with the Original Trilogy keeps the whole thing as Luke's story instead of allowing Anakin to take the spotlight. You also get the reveal of Vader as Luke's father at the end of Empire Strikes Back, and so you can flash back to Anakin's move to the Dark Side and transition into Vader. This order also allows you to find out Luke and Leia's true relationship before they find out, which makes things more interesting as well. This will be the order I show my children (although it might be altered a little bit with the Sequel Trilogy that is in the works now).
Nihil Obstat
Shush. The Prequel Trilogy is good even if it isn't as good as the originals.
Here is how I look at it: The prequels are adequate, but largely only on the strength of the Star Wars name. Mostly those three movies just represent massive wasted potential and letdowns. I say watch them a couple times just to know the story, but then as little as possible. They could have been excellent. That is part of what makes it so sad. And that is why I am looking forward to Disney taking over.
PhuturePriest
I guess I'm one of the few weird people that liked the sequels. Three in particular. I would say from best to least it would go three, one, two. I didn't like the second one very much at all. One was great simply because Qui-Gon is amesome.
