Glad to hear you had a good retreat Lil Mon! In good fun but all seriousness (just go with it) I was hoping you would apply before I left, but that's just because I am selfish and wanted to rejoice with you! If you do enter, I would love to hear about it. I would send you this in a PM but I'm on my phone and haven't learned all the tricks for mobile PM site! Anyway, if you are open, please keep us updated as you further 'unpack'. The DSMMEs are fantastic and any girl would be very blessed to have a vocation to them!

Dominican code? What is this Dominican code that you speak of Lil Mon? A deep dark oath of secrecy or a prudential silence to protect your own discernment? :)

About the Retreat because I have been "spiritually un-packing" from it. But I am sure you peoples already figured that out by now! :)

Anyway I had a great and amesome time at the Retreat! I can't really describe the events and things that took place at the retreat because of the "Dominican Code" and there are no words to express the beauty of the retreats.

I am glad that I went to this Retreat because I have met some pretty amesome phatmassers and I had a wonderful time as well! :)
Lil Mon, I'm very glad you had a great retreat!

But, what is the "Dominican Code?" I have never heard that the Dominicans in general had any rules about not talking about what happens on retreats--perhaps the DSMMEs do. But, why wouldn't you be allowed to talk about what happened on the retreat?

I think I can understand not talking about it in a public forum. But, if someone was thinking of going to a DSMME retreat and asked you specific questions about what went on, I assume you'd tell them privately, right? And, I assume that the DSMME Sisters would openly answer any questions about what goes on at their retreats? Right?

After all, this is the Catholic church we're talking about, not the Mormons. "Secret" rituals aren't usually the Catholic way, at least as I understand it. Perhaps there might be things that happen in religous life that people don't readily talk about, but I assume that questions would be openly answered if asked. And, retreatants are not in religious life, in any case.

Note: I'm not asking you to tell me about the retreat or to post in public. For me it's enough to know that it was a good retreat for you. But, when I see secrecy I wonder what they are trying to hide. Also, in the past, I've been put in some uncomfortable situations when I wasn't told ahead of time what would be going on or what would be expected of me. It gave me no chance to "quietly extricate" myself from an uncomfortable situation.

Here is one example of where I was put in an uncomfortable situation because the leaders wanted to "surprise" people. I was attending the annual conference of my division at work and at the end of the session they had a ceremony of "passing the candle." For me, "passing the candle" is something that I associate with religion, particularly with the service and Mass on the Saturday night before Easter. (Others obviously did not have this assocation.) If I had been told ahead of time that the group would be "passing the candle" I would have quietly slipped out before the ceremony. Instead, I was extremely uncomfortable that I was pressured to perform what is for me a ceremony associated with religion, at my workplace, which is decidedly secular. The intention of "surprise" may have no ill intent, but it can also badly backfire. (BTW--This isn't the only time I have been put in this position by "secrecy.")

When I speak about the "Dominican Code" what I mean is that there is something special about the dsmme retreats...probably more special than any other community.

Also going to the Dsmme Retreats might be not what you had expected and that is how I have been going to them over and over again. Besides life is full of suprises..and being surpised can make anyone feel uncomfortable or comfortable! Also it takes surprises to know your vocation....you don't know or plan it ahead!!!

We make plans and God laughs at them!!

To clarify a bit more. If any of you have been on a retreat like Kairos, Tek, Search, Encounter (this type of retreat may have a couple of other names too) there are certain parts of the retreat that they ask you keep just among the alums of the retreat. This isn't to be secretive or anything but just to not ruin the retreat for people who go on it in the future. There are several WONDERFUL surprises throughout that retreat and they loose a bit of their "specialness" if you know what is coming. (I won't say more here because there might be a few people here who will have the opportunity to go on one of those retreats in the future)
I'm guessing the "Dominican Code" is something similar, they have a couple surprises up their sleeves and if you know about a surprise then it really isn't a surprise is it?

Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) and Cursillo are like that, as well. I've been heavily involved with CRHP in the past (still continuing to offer support) and it was a totally worthwhile experience. I highly recommend CRHP to anyone who is looking for a good spiritual retreat. :)
