The American girls have nearly taken over the French novice house in Semur-en-Brionnais. I went to an investiture there this fall: two American girls and two French girls received their habits. The place was absolutely swarming with Americans: the novices' families flown in from the US, all the American brothers and sisters from nearby priories, etc. There was more English being spoken with a funny accent (so they tell me) and more gregarious American lunacy than France has experienced in a while. (It's good for them.) I was in expatriate heaven. :) Anyway, the French powers-that-be have realized the importance of creating an American novitiate for the swarms of Americans joining the community before theirs turns anglophone and they find themselves eating hamburgers every night for dinner. Okay, so I'm sort of twisting the story a little bit, but hallelujah! Too many of some of America's best and brightest young women want to join their community and are willing to move overseas, learn to speak through their noses, and eat goose liver and moldy cheese in order to do it! What a problem to have. :)

I knew Sister Marie in France last year and saw her last week when she was visiting here. She looks great and sounds very happy with how things are going out there. So, for any Americans (or Canadians or Australians or Kiwis) considering the Apostolic Sisters of St John, you no longer have to enter in France; you can now enter in the US and spend your first two years in your own language before coming here to finish your studies and formation and get French-fried.

Rosa immaculata

Great news for the US! This order is very international (but I don't know it very well), like the Franciscans of the Immaculate, but there is no novitiate in France yet, aha!
