Sisters likely vote, Nuns may not. I know Carthusian Monks (Whom are completely cloistered) are allowed to go out and vote on election day. They are given newspapers and everything in the months prior to the election to educate them on their vote, and on voting day they go to the voting booths. I can't imagine all cloistered communities do this, though.

It's a Catholic's duty to vote. Cloistered nuns are all supposed to vote, but, like you, I doubt that they all leave their Monasteries to vote! Many use a mail-in/absentee ballot, but many choose to go out and vote as well. Both sides win, one for the 'hiddenness' and one for the public witness they offer at the polls.

I am not certain, but I seem to remember it being reported in KS that their is an exemption clause for Nuns and Brothers where if they have an expired ID it could still be used as their Polling ID, so long as the picture was still identifiable as them. Something like that anyway.

We took voting very seriously. Some of the Sisters looked up information on all the candidates (even local ones) and gave us a voter's guide so we could know the candidates (pretty much all the Sisters were in agreement that pro-life issues were the most important, so that was usually the determining factor in who we voted for. For candidates who were both pro-life, we went more in-depth as to their positions on other issues, especially for local candidates). Alabama requires an ID, so we were to be sure our driver's licenses were current. At least one Sister didn't have a driver's license, so she received a state-issued ID (done easily at the DMV)
