I'm not thinking of becoming a Benedictine Monk. I'm thinking of becoming a Diocesan Priest, and Conception Seminary is where the Diocese sends you by default.

And this is day three since it is passed midnight, for the record.

Oklahoma City sends their diocesan priests to Conception Seminary and has for years. I would have to say that judging by the priests I have encountered over the years in OKC, Conception Seminary leans to the left, perhaps not all the way liberal but definitely to the left. Be aware of that.

It doesn't, actually. It is very traditional. It doesn't do the EF or anything, but it is very traditional. I hear nothing but good about it in terms of orthodoxy and tradition. You should keep in mind that Priests also go to Major Seminary, and this is usually where the heretical teachings are. Conception Seminary is a Minor Seminary. Its main focus is philosophy. Major Seminary is focused on theology, and that's where you have to look out.

No that is the same one, Concdeption Seminary is the college level seminary where a undergraduate degree is done. However priestly formation requires at least 6 years and a Masters level degree in Theology or European equivelent. Most left leanings or extreme conservative leanings come during the theology program years at a major or theological seminary.

Conception is a very orthodox and conservative institution and the monks there do wonderful work with their printing press. The Abbot has just finished a new translation of the Latin hours and I believe it has either just been approved or about to be approved by Rome.

Indeed. Thank you for clearing it up.

I must say orthodoxy and traditionalism comes with a price. A $32,000 a year one, in fact.

Or unless you are like me and your diocese pays for every year. :) Well, technically they don't. You take on a loan, and if you are ordained the diocese pays everything in full. If not, you pay for it. I would be willing to bet if you absolutely needed it they would help out with some of the debt, though.

And one day! I'm starting to get excited.

Well, I should probably start getting ready. I don't know what I should bring. Any ideas? I know a book or two because it's a seven hour or more trip there and back, but anything else?

Miles, I can't believe I didn't show this to you earlier. I was lolling when I saw it:

I will be thinking of and praying for you as you go on this visit-trip. It is truly such a hard thing to discern what God wants of you when you are attracted to different vocations. The only advice I can find in my place to offer is pray. Just pray deeply, openly, soulfully, deliberately deny all of what is your will; abandon yourself for God. If you abandon your own will then you will be free, free to do His complete Will. Pray often and pray constantly. God bless. Pax tecum.
