Ellenita
Putting the SAS in Northern Ireland probly wasn't a smart move
Putting any of our troops in Northern Ireland probably wasn't a smart move......
It's the reason the SAS are one of the best anti-terrorist forces in the world....
Not a justified reason though RandomProddy is it? And the actions taken by them (on the orders of politicians) have undoubtedly meant the peace process has taken much longer.....and the healing and forgiveness between all the parties which must happen if true peace is to be achieved appears to be a long way off..... Phazzan
Have you seen the movie Bloody Sunday? Is it any good? And is it historically accurate? I may do a World History Project on it.
I've seen it. A rather good movie, but biased all the same. Make the Brits out to be evil b@stards, even though they probably were. Ellenita
Is it historically accurate?
It's difficult to say. The whole 'event' is open to interpretation depending on which side of the divide your opinion lies. The 'protestors' say they were marching peacefully and the British soldiers opened fire without provocation. The army claims that they were fired upon first by the IRA who used the march as a cover. Two irrefutable facts are that people who were marching peacefully were killed and that successive British governments did not allow a public inquiry to investigate what had actually happened on (disputed) British territory. The current government has allowed an inquiry which I believe is still on going...
