missionseeker
Maurice Durufle's Requiem. Most of it us based on the chant. It was written in the 20th century and one of the reasons I refuse to believe that there is no modern sacred music appropriate for Mass. I was able to sing this one year at an FSSP Mass for the Dead on All Souls with about 400 people attending the Mass. My friend had died a month before, so it was incredibly poignant. My cousin died a month later and I found comfort in listening to it. This year and last year, I listen not only in memory of those two, but also in memory of my friend Jon who died last October. franciscanheart
We're singing the Haydn Requiem tonight. Last year we sung the Mozart Requiem. The year before was Rutter's setting. I love the Requiem.
missionseeker
When I was in Georgia, they did Rutter's at the Cathedral so I went. My choir is doing Mozart's this year. (I say my choir. I mean the Ave choir). Never done the Haydn one, though I LOVE his Masses. I just love Masses. hahaha. But I do agree, the requiem(s) is (are) extremely beautiful.
