IgnatiusofLoyola
I have been praying for Sandy's victims on the East Coast, but I never expected the storm to affect Chicago, except perhaps for some additional rain and wind. However, they are now forecasting that waves up to 20+ feet could reach the Chicago shoreline of Lake Michigan by tomorrow (Tuesday). I live just north of Chicago. I don't live right on the lake, but my town is on Lake Michigan. (I live about 2 miles inland.) If there are 20+ foot waves on the shore, I could easily lose power. I'm probably too far away to be affected by flooding, but you never know. Arrghhh! So, when you are praying for the East Coast victims, could you add a few prayers for those of us who are more than 500 miles away from the East Coast, but are still affected by Sandy? I'm used to losing power, so I have flashlights etc., but often my phone lines go down, too, so you may not hear from me or from other Phatmassers in Chicago and areas in the Midwest east of Chicago. The good news is that the convent for retired Sisters across the street from me has its own generator and a special power arrangement with my town. So, even if my power goes out, at least the retired Sisters will have power and be fine. It is a combination retirement home and nursing home, so many of the Sisters are very ill. I won't mind so much if I lose power knowing the retired Sisters are okay. Thanks for your prayers!

IgnatiusofLoyola
So far so good for me. Chicago has high waves but the 20 foot waves are forecast for tomorrow. However, it is windy out and this morning is very cold. So, I'm hoping I keep my power. It's nothing like the devastation of the East Coast. They need our prayers the most. Still, it shocked me that Sandy could affect a major city 600-700 miles away. Quite a storm!

[/quote] My office is in Illinois Center, across the river from the Tribune building. We have a good view of Lake Michigan. There's nothing like being in a meeting and being able to look down Michigan Avenue to Oak Street beach, and watching the whitecaps as well as some pretty big waves which must have gotten to be about 20 feet occasionally.
