Thank you but I still disagree with you that praying in public is comparable to the pharisees. Praying anywhere is always good.

That's cute, but that's not what Jesus said.

"5 When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you."

I think it's all about context. When people all come together to pray, even in public, that's certainly a good thing. If someone stands on a street corner praying as loudly as he can, he's using those "prayers" more as a means to make a point or to call attention to himself, which is what Our Lord was criticizing.

I suppose the online space is not as easily differentiated sometimes, but I think the reaction labeling your prayers as "spam" indicate that it looked more like the street corner guy than the sincere public prayer guy to many people. generally on PM we would probably make a particular thread to pray, I know there was a pretty long running rosary thread once upon a time, also a very long Jesus prayer thread; not sure if there's anything around like that currently; from time to time an interjection of a prayer might be good within a particular thread, but one should never use prayer to try to make a point.

and yeah, that quote, that's an important quote to always keep in mind.

It takes 0.000003 seconds to hit the "quote" button. FYI, it also takes 0.000003 seconds to hit the "reply" button you are currently using.

And you'd probably have more time if you'd stop praying for a few seconds.

He is a very busy man. It is not easy being the only real Catholic in the world you know.

Funny story.

I was drunk once and tried to answer a question with either "does a bear s*** in the woods" or "is the Pope Catholic?" In my stupor, it came out "Does the pope s*** in the woods?!?!?"

A regional meme was born.
