MissScripture
We are attempting to childproof our kitchen, so John Paul can be in there with me. The problem (and why we didn't do it sooner) is that our cabinets are metal, so we can't mount anything to them and the handles are sort of like this: so nothing can be wrapped around them or through them to fasten the doors shut. Any ideas on what we could use to keep the cabinets closed? We are rearranging the stuff in the lower cupboards, but we have one that we can't just move the stuff to another spot and we need to keep him out of. Thanks. MIKolbe
we used the things that 'locked' them from the inside. it was a 2 part system... with a hook and a latch.. both plastic. you would be able to barely open the cabinet just enough to disengage the hook-lock. something similar to this

MissScripture
But don't those screw in? We have metal cabinets, so we can't screw anything to them.

Archaeology cat
Would magnetic locks work?
Nihil Obstat
We had a magnetic lock on our liquor cabinet while we were all younger. Wouldn't be too difficult probably to put a couple magnetic locks on the cabinets with potentially dangerous stuff in them.
PhuturePriest
Glue rolls and rolls of bubble wrap everywhere. That'll keep the guy from hitting his head on a metal cabinet.

arfink
Gorilla glue 'em to the doors if you want to use that kind, or use a 2 part long-set epoxy. Super glue will not hold up well over a long time with plastic on metal. Do the handles mount with bolts or screws of some kind? You could either swap the handles or thread a little bit of twine through the hole and but the bolt back in, so you'd have some way of holding the door shut. Winchester
Instead of childproofing the house, houseproof the child. Put in him a fluffy suit with thick gloves over his hands, so he cannot pick anything up. Tell him to play astronaut.

Nihil Obstat
Or just change all the kids' names to "Danger". That is much better, because you go "Hey, that bottle of bleach is dangerous!" And the kid goes "Hah, my middle name is Danger!"
