Thanks For Prayers

Recommended Posts

I did hear back from my community, and they said, I can go ahead with them. The next steps are learning French and a longer stay. I am planning on relocating in July for the French classes and then after that to spend time with the community. Off course I won't know for sure until the day I enter, but this is a sign of hope for me. My beloved Jesus still wants me for himself.

Thanks for all your prayers and let's continue to keep all those in discernment in our prayers.
So happy for you, savvy!!!! Will the longer stay be a live-in situation? You must be so excited. :)
Thanks Emma. Yes, the longer stay is also a live-in. But I have to take French classes before I do it.

Savvy....

One of the BEST ways to pick up useful vocabulary is to pray the Liturgy of the Hours in French! It's available for free on line through this link:

http://www.aelf.org/

Here's a link to the same things in English (may be a difference in the hymns, but the rest will be parallel)

http://www.divineoffice.org

Even if you aren't currently praying the hours, you already DO know the psalms, etc..... so this will help you to 'think' in your new language.... and to pick up vocabulary you will need. And get a sense for the grammar. Works really well!!!!!!

This is something we often suggest in my Secular Order to people whose language is not English -- start with one in your own language, and then slowly ease into the English version.... you'd be doing the reverse.

PM me if you aren't sure what I am suggesting....

Congrats & Blessings!

AnneLinne,

Thanks for the links, but the French one does not have audio like the English one. Words are pronounced differently from how they are spelt in French.

Agreed.. but won't you need to learn how to read the language at some point? If you can see the English and French side by side, it still may help you... if not now, at least at some point.... Try the same thing with the Bible.... you know the Gospel, the psalms, yes? -- then you should be able to find simple passages like Ps 23 The Lord is my shepherd.....

In the meantime, the Canadian Dominicans have some sermons on line.... look unjder the 'homilies' tab on the right and select the bottom option - 'audio'

Even if you don't understand them, your brain will get more used ot listenening to French if you play these from time to time.... and you will start picking up words.

I don't know French well, but I have used this to help me with Spanish and Italian... and I can at least make some sense of the French.....

Here's the link to all the books of the Bible, OK?

And Ps. 22 (some translations have it as 23)

Here's the Same thing in English:

1 The LORD is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack.
2 In green pastures he makes me lie down; to still waters he leads me;
3 he restores my soul. He guides me along right paths for the sake of his name.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me.
5 You set a table before me in front of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Indeed, goodness and mercy will pursue me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of the LORD for endless days.

hope this helps... later if not now. Praying for you....
