ToJesusMyHeart
How do non-Catholics come across phatmass? And why do you stay? And do you think Catholicism is razzle dazzle? (Genuine curiosity, not condescension! )
r2Dtoo
I believe most of us were Catholic once. I don't know about the Protestants they're weird, as usual.
ToJesusMyHeart
I might be opening a hornet's nest, but why did you leave the Church?
Anastasia13
How do non-Catholics come across phatmass? And why do you stay? And do you think Catholicism is razzle dazzle? (Genuine curiosity, not condescension! )
I found it through Onerock.com, which seems to be now defunct, at least last I looked years ago. Phatmass had won some top ranking on Catholic websites. Onerock was slightly below. I found that website through a Catholic on a seminary student on an anime forum member (did I mention this was years ago?). I stayed because I was always interested in Catholicism. I'm here because it's familiar, has nice people, gets slightly faster replies sometimes than the Orthodox forum, is a place to pick brains and throw out ideas for discussion, and I have a lot more changes going through my brain than which church I go to-many of which clearly had a communication breakdown or were too combined in the thread I had a couple weeks ago on parents and independence. I come and go on many websites like this. It's how I post. Why do you stay? Catholicism has some cool points. Parts of it seem a little cold, but that is partly a cultural thing and is a little better in the Eastern rites. Catholic people have typically had a similar worldview. ToJesusMyHeart
Why do you stay?
I stay mostly for the Vocation Station phorum, since I'm feeling the call to consecrated life. VS has a lot of wonderful information about consecrated life, and the people here are very generous with prayers and offering helpful advice to the frustrated college student in discernment (aka me). I'm always kind of shaken when I venture out of Vocation Station into Open Mic because of the immense variation in religious belief here versus there. In VS, most everyone agrees on religious practices, but here, clearly, it's not so. PM is also a really good way to waste time and procrastinate my studies, so there's that too.
For what it is worth, ToJesus, you guys did help change my a little over the years.
That actually is worth something. Thank you for sharing. We hope you'll stick with us and see where that goes.

LittleWaySoul
Bacon is the best religion ever. The whole reason Jesus started Christianity was because as a Jew he wasn't allowed to eat bacon. :| The more you know.
