hotpink
This spider bit me. Should I be concerned? It's about the size of a quarter all said and done. GregorMendel
If you havent already squished it, can you tell if there is a "violin"-like marking on its thorax? Also, how long has it been since it bit oyu and what symptoms, if any, are you experiencing?

dominicansoul
i would get it checked out... looks like a brown recluse....if its the size of a dime and has the violin shape marking, yeah...definitely would get it checked out...
Nihil Obstat
Anyway, most spider bites, especially in North America, are not medically significant.

Anomaly
Take some benadryl (unless you are alergic to anti-histamines) and chill. If the wound grows and starts to fester within 12 hrs, see a doctor immediately.
GregorMendel
True, but he (i cant imagine hotpink is a girls name ) should be diligent; if it is indeed a brown recluse, it could take three to four days for symptoms to develop, and while some respond with limited, urticarial reactions, others develop full skin necrosis at and around the bite site. Hotpink, just be mindful of any headaches, general malaise, or aching joints, and check on the bite until it heals.
hotpink
Didn't smush it. I took a picture than it dropped down and skittered off into a dark corrner. It's been about 20 hours, it's tender and puffy (dunnof if it would qualify as swolen) a shadow-like bruise is slowly forming.
hermit
I agree, we have Brown recluse spiders here where I live and they are one of the few spiders in the US that can really mess you up...[quote name='dominicansoul' timestamp='1350673758' post='2494944'] i would get it checked out... looks like a brown recluse....if its the size of a dime and has the violin shape marking, yeah...definitely would get it checked out... It may be nothing, but it may be something serious as well. The tender and puffiness are causes for concern in my opinion. In southern Kansas where I live the two most common spiders are brown recluses and black widows, both of which are poisonous. The brown recluse can release venom (I say "can" because in most cases it doesn't) that will eventually eat away your flesh at the affected area. This can be easily fixed and I would urge getting it looked at. It's not worth it to avoid a shot in exchange for a permanent scar. Basilisa Marie
Since it's been 20 hours, I would sincerely doubt that it's a super poisonous spider like a brown recluse. If it were me, I wash it, maybe put some neosporin (or other topical antibiotic) on it, and keep an eye on the swelling and bruising for any dramatic changes.
