I live in New Hampshire and we just felt a good rumble for quite a few seconds like a 4 point something on the Ritcher scale earthquake. I guess the epicenter was in Maine. My grandfather felt it so hard in the southern part of NH that he thought a burglarer had come through the window and ran around his house like a madman with a kitchen knife. That I would have paid lots to see lol. Has anyone heard from Trisha or Got2luvJC or any other local PMers to see if there ok lol. I would imagine G2LJ is fine she lives not to far from my Pepere, but for all I know Trisha lives on top of the epicenter. At least it didn't disturb my movie and the powers gone out today twice but niether time was during the quake lol. Anyone else feel it? Or have amesome disaster stories they wanna share?!?

I'm fine. :)

It gave us a good shake here for probably 10-15 seconds. It was mostly just loud and felt like we were on a boat...

It was kinda fun, actually.

I wouldn't really consider it an earthquake. It was just a 4.0, which means it was more like a fun house, really.

I believe my dad said it was a 4.6. We have had 2 point somethings that made the news. I imagine it's a lot like getting a real snow storm in Kansas Miles: It's so rare nobody knows what to do. :-P

We actually get tons of snow storms in Kansas. There are blizzards and everything mostly every year. We just don't get those often in southern Kansas.

Miles, a blizzard has actual qualifictations, it isn't just a blizzard because you got tired when you were shovelling it. In NH we expect to send our kids to school everytime we get a half a foot (unless the half foot is just ice and not snow). We are the 3rd coldest state in the U.S. according to a study done when I was in school. Only Maine and Alaska are colder. The Great Lakes region gets a croutons load more snow then NH though for obvious reasons and we blow everyone else on the planet away in the wind category. The single windiest spot ever recorded on Earth is Mt. Washington in NH. I'm sure Kansas gets a little snow but I doubt I would spend much time in a jacket down there. Kansas does get tornadoes.

Being from the land of earthquakes (and reminded that we had our last bigish one in 1989 -- on Oct 17--how bizarre is that!) there are earthquakes... and there are earthquakes.

Most of them feel more like airline turbulance... and can kind of feel like a 'funhouse' ride. I used to respond like that to them....

But having ridden out the 1989 one on the 21st floor of an office building that was on a 'shake table' (which lets the building move A LOT but keeps it from going boom --one hopes!) -- I don't feel quite as cavallier about them as I did at one point.

BUT....

I'd rather have to deal with an occasional EQ than a tornado, hurricaine, etc.... Usually an earthquake is a bad few seconds... and then you deal with whatever is there when you finish shaking. Usually... excactly the same thing and some bad jokes and nervous giggles. BUT occasionally with a whole lot more.....

Glad all you had to deal with was the bad few seconds.....

I felt it fo' sho'. My dad and I thought the washing machine was running around the basement, but alas, it was not. I hope that at the epicenter on Lake Arrowhead it created massive waves for surfing.

I felt it for about 5 seconds. I knew it was an earthquake...I wasn't really shocked, it came and passed, nothing dramatic...though everyone was talking about it like it was a sign of the Apocalypse lol. I probably would have taken it more seriously if I was in an area of the country where it could actually turn into something bigger.
