Discernment can definitely be the most painful thing to go through. It is extremely personal and often seems just like a "roller coaster" ride, going in all directions with no sight of a ending point!

It took me 4 times before I finally entered. It became extremely complex. I thought that entering would mean the end of all things (well not quite). But after about a month, I couldn't understand why I had been so concerned, and even afraid.

I will pray that what ever it is that God is asking of you, and offering to you, that you will with great peace and courage accept and embrace it. In any case, even if you are not called, you can never have too many retreats.

PS. This is my 100th post. You should feel honoured that it appears on your thread :harhar: .

Oh, we know what you want to talk to Sr. Joseph Andrew about, don't try to hide it.

You need to talk to her about your plans to celebrate the Year of Faith by evangelizing the chickens.

(But pssst, the Franciscans may be a better fit there ...)

Umm I am 21.......

I don't want to waste my precious time by doing it though......

If I was in the boat of really knowing that this is what God called me.....I wouldn't be able to enter anyways. I got too much in my life as it is!

Life in the convent is NEVER a waste.

Take it from God's point of view. He is not going to punish a soul because that soul wants to investigate if it should serve God alone! On the contrary, He will reward the soul for its generosity and love, even if it is not called to that way of life.

God CANNOT be outdone in generosity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope that you life is not too full that God is having trouble getting in.

To Jesus Through Mary

21 is young. And with Edigio- time in the convent really is never wasted. God is way more generous then we are. In my short time in the convent (about 9 months) I learned more about holiness and prayer then all of my years as a Catholic (almost 6 years). Before I entered I was still doing daily Holy Hours and going to daily Mass, so it wasn't like that much of an increase of prayer, but quality. You can trust God with you life. :) (LOL! I really need to internalize this message!)

Did you listen to the Gospel today? That gospel followed me everywhere until I finally gave into God's love. Still praying that you will have peace and even joy on your road to realise God's Holy Will in your life, whatever it may be.

Ever read the Chronicles of Narnia? Specifically The Magicians Nephew?

Remember the Bell of Charn? I don't remember the exact quote, but the bell is inscribed with a phrase to the effect that if the boy does not ring the bell he will never know what will happen when it is rung. He is coerced into ringing it by the fear of not knowing what would have happened had he chosen not to ring it. So he rings it, and unleashes a terrible evil.

The same thing can happen in discernment. Do not let fear or regret drive you to make any decision. The Lord does not work in that way. He will lead you by drawing your heart, not by coercion. Love God, approach prayer, and you will eventually find what is right. :)

Well, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that 21 is not too young. I'm speaking as an oldie, too. You are ready when God calls you. That said I get the roller coaster upside down inside out thing. I said in another thread that discerning feels exactly like when I converted.

Mon, you've made it clear in previous threads that you are open to what God is asking of you -- but that you aren't sure whether it is religious life or not.

I remember well the long period when you kept insisting that YOU wanted to be married with a bunch of children! Now you sound more... centered, but not sure what God is asking. If that is the case, your silence now is appropriate -- because you are listening HARD.

I pray for you all the graces you need to make a discernment. Only you know if there are some factors that affect your choices (and that we may not be aware of).... so I won't try to pressure you one way or the other.

Just enjoy the retreat, talk with Sr. Joseph Andrew... and pray hard. We'll do the same.... for all who will be on the retreat!

I'll second the bolded and add one thing. Relax!!! God wants something so amesome and wonderful for you. As long as you are open to doing his will, you have no worries. Easier said than done, though.
