Croat
In the most mainstream and decent discos these days there are many immodestly dressed girls, but it is not a proximal occasion of sin for me, but it is probably an occasion for sin for many of my friends who are not very pious catholics. Could someone please answer me concretely these few questions? Am I responsible for their sins if I invite them to go out with me? If I am, is this then a matter grave enough for a mortal sin, or I am just being scrupulous? Does this applies for beaches also?
CatherineM
Unfortunately you can be around people immodestly dressed in school or in Church. I've even seen it in the courthouse. You are never responsible for someone else's sin. You can ask a date to wear something different, but you can't force them to. What you can do is stop dating someone who doesn't act modestly. If you feel that attending a place makes you sin, whether it is a dance or play or beach, by all means avoid it. I would suggest that you discuss some if these issues with your confessor. If you are developing a scrupulous conscience, it's better to nip it in the bud before it overwhelms your life.
