Lets say you went to church earlier on Sunday and later on in the same day you attend church with someone who has not gone yet. Are you allowed to receive the Eucharist again?

If you are in a choir or serving mass, it is common to go more than once. If you are accompanying someone, that's okay too. The problem comes up if you are purposely going to receive multiple times.

My husband had a friend who was in seminary when he became sick with schizophrenia. He used to spend all day going from church to church to receive 5 times a day. It took me months to convince him he shouldn't, even showing him the rule in canon law.

We never want to lessen the significance of receiving. You always want to approach hungry so to speak. Two is okay if you have a reason. If you go a third time, it should be because you are receiving viaticum.
